My shot gun is loaded (except for the chamber) at all times...1 pump and she's ready to roll...statistics say that the sound of a shotgun pumping is usually enough to deter a thief...but just in case its not

I own a 12 Gauge Remington 870 Express Magnum Home Defense Model with a pistol grip and side saddle :)

I'm pretty sure the sound of chambering a round in the shotgun would scare anyone off.

got a mossberg 500 w/ breeching barrel next to my bed.. it stays "combat loaded" which consists of having the gun loaded w/ an empty chamber. that way you grab it, rack a round in the chamber and have at it.... also keep my XD9 in a holster on the headboard, but it stays loaded with on in the chamber at all times! plus a good flashlight is a must next to the bed!

and yes a good flashlight is a must for home defense! another thing i always stress is not to get one mounted to your gun. although they do make it really convienet maybe at some point you will need/want to look at something without pointing your gun at it. for instance if your like me and have a little one running around the house, if i'm checking the house in the middle of the night i dont want to go looking around the corner to find its him and have my gun pointing at him... food for thought.

I have a pistol for home defense loaded and chambered. Otherwise it would be a paper weight. I don't like shotguns for HD generally. My shotguns sit in the safe; even my 500C (7+1).

My best friend lives in the ghetto so he usually keeps his 870 tactical loaded but not in the chamber. He has a pressure grip flashlight on the pump and a collapsible stock. Its f***in' bad ass.

if its not chambered it could cost you precious time, even if just fractions of a second...
plus what if you are injured and bleeding and your hand is slippery and wet? could prove difficult to chamber.
thats how i look at it :)

I do not leave any guns loaded unless I am using it period there is to many factors that can go wrong. Leaving a gun loaded is wreckless and stupid unless it a handgun and put away so noone can reach it except you, but a shotgun no my dad is a cop and at least twise a year he has to go to a call where the father is on the front poarch crying his eyes out because his little girl or boy didnt know it was loaded or whatever and ended up killing themselves or someone else. It takes 2 seconds to load a shell in the chamber leave the shells by the gun or have a few in the tube and call it good.
