I don't own a gun, but I keep my light saber under my pillow with the safety off.

I'm all for home protection and gun rights, just be careful with those loaded guns. My roommate keeps a loaded .45 under his mattress and pulled it on our other drunk roommate walking/stumbling into his room in the middle of the night because he thought it was the bathroom...

We all added locks to our doors after that incident... ;)

edit: though I realize most of you are much older and responsible with your firearms. Just a friendly "be careful!" to keep my conscience clean! :)

Our home protection is a .357 mag 6-shooter. It's loaded with hollow points at all times.

I don't have kids... I'm going to have to figure something else out when I do.

My Taurus Millennium .40 stays loaded next to the bed. I'm pretty sure the sound of it going off would scare em....for a micro second at least.

I have my XD in the nightstand with Glaser blue tips chambered, Mossberg in the closet ready to rock and a 10 rd mag in the AK in case they are still able to run down the street! (Not really on the AK but it's fun to think about) Between the handgun and shotty, hopefully I can handle business.

I just had this thought last night. Glad to hear most people are in the same boat as me. Our 20g is a bad ass little gun. I never really thought about the flashlight aspect of it. Good point though.

I keep my HD gun chambered. If SHTF I don't wanna have to think about loading anything, I wanna be able to grab and go.

Its a good idea to use bird shot for home defence.
Its been known that double 00 buck shoot can go right through your dry wall putting neighbors or family members at risk of getting shot as well FYI.

exactly... and while obviously it dosn't have the knock down that buck shot does it will still stop them from what they are doing...

thats the exact reason i keep my shotgun next to the bed. i also have my pistol but i'll go for the shotgun first in the middle of the night.

+1 for that. Was feeling maybe I was a little bit odd after seeing nobody else post about keeping their HD weapons in the same state. I've read some of your replies and threads in the Guns and Hunting section of TW, and you obviously have much more experience than I do so I think I'm ok now  ... I'm with you on this one!
