I keep it loaded with the extender. So I have 7 rounds ready to go. I don't keep on chambered. I agree I think the sound of chambering a round helps a lot.

Me and my roommate both have 12ga's ready to roll, he shoots buckshot and I shoot slugs... Plus he keeps a Glock 9mm by his head and we both have dogs. I feel sorry for the dumbass that tries it.

No kiddos at home so my 12 ga mossberg stays loaded with one in the chamber. I got on of those stock sleeves on it with 5 extra shells and about 20 rounds on a belt in the drawer. Glock 23 with flashlight stays loaded with one in the chamber as well.

I used to leave the gun unchambered thinking that racking a round would be a deterrent....in the middle of the night, confused slightly, trying to locate my wife and dogs, then attempting to locate the intruder, I don't want the added distraction or giving my location away by the sound of it. They made the choice...so be it. First sound they hear is the first round.

Shotgun is loaded but not chambered. Also has additional rounds in the sleeve on the buckstock. The .45 is next to the bed loaded but not chambered with an extra loaded mag. Other weapons are unloaded and locked away.
