I would like to do this mod on my tacoma. But rigid bars are expensive. Is there a bar similar to this one for a better price?

what about some sort of red hoodscoop lights? high output, for car camping, so your night vision isn't completely ruined... just a thought.

An LED manufacturer needs to come out with a light that replaces the plastic behind the scoop screen for an easy install without cutting up the plastic.

I looked at this mod but decided to get C4's kit because he appears to get a dealer price on the lights. I ordered the Rigid 911712 Hyperspot light bar that lists on Amazon for $333 (and $350 on Rigid's website). C4's price, including his $65 bracket, was $325, plus $18 shipping. I just received the kit and will be installing it soon'ish.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hood-scoop-led-lightbar-bracket-by-c4fab.353700/

BTW, he has a kit for 2012+ models that uses a AVEC 12" light. See his install: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...kit-by-c4-fab-12-edition.359701/#post-9739739

The plastic has to go for the light to shine through. For pre 2012 there are rivets to drill out; for 2012+ there is cutting involved. There is no way around it.

    Hey Guys -

Got a 10" bar for christmas and looking forward to doing this mod. I had a quick question.

I have not taken my hood apart yet, so sorry if this is dumb.

I layed the lightbar up against the hood and it didnt fit in while fully assembled. It was just a quick eyeball. I also tried to slip it in, under the hood, between the supports and the top of the hood and it didnt slide in. I measured the Lightbar housing and it comes out at about 1.75". Is there more clearance once you remove the plastic inserts to slide the lightbar in?

I spoke with rigid and they said all housing measurements on the SR and SR2 bars are the same, so I'm basically wondering how you got yours in.

    Thanks!

    Hi Richard,

I love your mod and have it on my list of things to do. I was wondering if you ever considered not cutting the mesh grid in front of the SR light? I thought it might add to the hidden appearance, but understand it would likely reduce the light output. Would there be any interference/fit concerns?

Should fit just fine. You'll still need to cut the plastic behind the mesh, but you could leave the mesh. Keep in mind that this is for the 2005-2011 Tacomas, in 2012+ (I think), they changed the hood scoop to be smaller, so not sure an SR will fit or not.

I like it. Very discreet. Not like some the the lighting bullshit I have see here.

And at the perfect level for blinding "DICKS" in the vehicle in front of you in the rear view...

This idea is all well and good, but I've got a bit of a different idea in mind. First, I thought of having led lighting in the hood for just an accent light to match led halo/devil eye accent. But I came up with a better idea that I've not seen done yet. I work in EMS and put emergency blue led flashers on my truck and thought the hood would be a good place to add a few extra small flashers. If anyone has done this or can point me in the right direction for an example that wood be great.

works awesome, SR2 10" driving light is just what the doctor ordered. ordered the light from Amazon for just over $230 shipped, C4 Fabrications bracket keeps everything nice and stable

I'm putting the switch(es) in the little coin compartment to the left of the steering wheel. I figure if I don't like it there I can buy another one and move the switches

So, I did the hood scoop light mod on my 2014. I just happened to have a relay/mount and pigtail harness laying around.
It worked great, but had an extra signal wire tied to the one I used to turn the light on. I had mistakenly thought it could also activate the relay for my 30" in bumper light. What I realized the other day, is that this wire allows more than one way to turn the scoop light on. I came up with an idea to use this, but don't know where to tap in to make it work.

My idea is to use the parking light flash during locking and unlocking the doors to flash the hood scoop light. Does anyone know where I can find and tap into the relay that flashes the parking lights?

I got a message about installation, probably because I'm the last guy to post up about an install. I figured it might help out anyone else that's lurking, so I'm gonna drop a bunch of photos. Mostly the mount and how the light looks behind the hood scoop mesh/grill/stuff
