LED lighting on door locks....!!!!

wish I had the know how and tools to do so... so jealous!

 

I actually didn't wire to the dome or unlock power switch. I used a simple "add a fuse" (pepboys / auto store). It simply plugs into the inside fuse box that only gets power when the trucks aux key position or higher is turned on So when the truck gets power and dash lights so does the door locks.

I have to say OP, this is one HELL of a cool mod! You did a really god job on the write up. One possible change to this, just as a thought, but you could use a relay that is controlled by your parking lights which would disable the LEDs unless the parking lights were on. Just so the LEDs would not be on during the day. Just a thought anyway.

 

That's honestly not a bad idea! I never thought of that when I did it, I was stoked that they came out good I just wanted to wire them in!!! haha

So to be clear the LED goes off when you lock the doors, and comes on when you unlock it??

 

How this was the Plexiglas you used?

 

Cool mod but if I can't find the door locks, that means I've had one too many!

 

It was about as thick as a quater!

And no the locks stay on the whole time the ignitions on! It locked cool at night even when they were locked because it would glow through the cracks

 

With a small circuit board under the dash, and a timer (all can be bought from Radio Shack) you could even make it where the leds will dim out after a set time period of being inop.

Unlock with remote, leds come on. after 30 seconds leds go off.
Turn off key, leds come on, after 30 seconds leds go off.

That kind of thing. Probably cost less than $20 in materials from Radio Shack.

now where should i wire it to? i like the idea of it turning on just like the dome light in ADDITION to it turning on when i have the parking lights on.

 

You would have to wire in both the dome and parking lights to a relay with resistors so current cant flow back into the opposing line. Then bam it works for both

 

I'll probably do this, need to go to home depot soon anyway

Thanks! Seems pretty straight forward to me, and I already have an idea of where I'm going to wire into. Just not sure which color, blue or amber and then I have to order some or get then where you did

 

So I did this, looks good, but now my remote lock doesn't work? My unlock from remote works, and I checked the in-cab door locks fuse and it was ok, what could it be?

And the buttons in the cab work on each side

 

Maybe reprogram my remote, took it apart and it looks fine, hasn't got wet or anything. I'll check my wires later too
