    Hi folks,

Just curious to see if anyone else has had issues with LEER caps being properly paint matched? I ordered a 100R from a LEER dealer and had it installed on Friday. I have a '13 magnetic grey taco. From what I've read the metallic colors are sometimes tricky to get right but the color of the cap is several shades off from the truck. Has anyone else had this happen before? If so, did you send it back to be repainted? What was the ultimate outcome? If there's little chance of getting the color match improved I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of having it taken off and shipped back to LEER. I need to start using it pretty much immediately and don't like the thought of waiting several weeks to get it sent off, repainted, sent back, and put on again. But these things are NOT cheap and the color difference seems pretty glaring to me. :\

Since yours is a 13, maybe your paint has weathered throughout the years. Sending back might not make much of a difference if they don't have truck to match/blend to. Getting them to agree to do a repaint at a body shop is probably your best bet.

No way I would have accepted that.

My dad's taco is MGM, and i LOVE the color, but with all the sparkle in it the slightest ding stands out so much.

When I ordered my MGM cap from Leer the dealer specifically warned me that the color was very difficult to match and that there were no guarantees. Mine is off very slightly depending on how you look at it.

I had a bunch of fish eyes in my 700 series Lid and Leer took off $200 bucks.

Are you sure your truck is magnetic gray? It looks like pyrite to me. I would check the paint code to be sure.

    That's what I was thinking (Pyrite = code 4T3, Magnetic = code 1G3):

Yeah, it's definitely MGM. Pic taken with cell phone at sunset so the colors there might not be true to life. What is well-represented is the difference in color between the cap and the truck.

That was what got me thinking that maybe the truck was not MGM--that's not a mismatch, it's the wrong color...

Have you checked the paint code?

Like OP said it's the sunlight making it look pyrite, but you can see it "fade" to MGM as you look rearward.

Both colors masquerade as one another depending on lighting. MGM can look pyrite at sunset and pyrite looks MGM on cloudy days.

Having said that I wouldn't mind seeing a pic taken farther back.

Dealer gets the color code off the truck before the order gets placed.
