I do it this way as well. As long as there's no rain in the forecast. When offroading I try to seal it up to keep the dust out. Other than that, this works fine. Usually mine is rolled up and open anyways

I just used the included velcro. Blends in with MGM, and honestly, I don't care if there is a little velcro showing when open. Also wasn't too worried about adhesive on my paint. Emblems were on there from the factory for 6 years and came off no problem with no issues with the paint underneath.

The issue for me with the Velcro is that opening the tailgate, I would have to unvelcro the flap each time. With magnets, I can just pull the tailgate open. I go in frequently to the bed, so ease of use was the priority... and the magnets is pretty slick and clean too. For the record, I keep mine rolled up 90% of the time in the summer anyways.

    Short: I'm lazy.

hey there! I know this is a super old post but do you think this is possible to do on the tail gate side? I would like to try and do this to my softopper but have the rig set up behind the truck. Let me know. Thanks.

The ease of opening and closing the tailgate because of magnets is a very valid point. I didn't want to deal with buying and sewing and all of that, so I guess I'm lazy too!

Or be king of lazy and do nothing. Let that rear flap flow naturally.

That’s how I ran mine and experienced no flapping issues. Full disclosure though, that was on a second gen with the thinner tailgate.

Seems to be fine on the 3rd gen thicker tailgate as well.

Added front, back, and side panels to my soft "top".

Meh, I have the skills to add them at any time. Need more research on materials to use.

Seriously my favorite thing about the softopper. Get pretty good protection from the rain, but can toss stuff in and out of the back with ease.

    Good to hear. :)

It might apply at the moment as I ran out of time and patience to get them done before my big trip in 3 days.

I’m surprised you aren’t running one of those fancy new racks over your softopper?

lol no, completely defeats the purpose of a softopper for me. I have nothing at all I would need to carry up on a bed rack.

Those boats seem like prime objects to warrant a bed rack :notsure:

The MOB designed one seems to be as user friendly as an over-the-top rack can be, but I get where you’re coming from.

I can toss those on the prinsu if really needed. It takes me about 2 minutes to get them in the back of the truck, and that rope tied to my truck so they don't come out the back somehow. For me if it's not convenient, I probably won't go out and use them.

The amount of times where I'd go kayaking and have a bed full of camping gear is so slim that it doesn't necessitate a bed rack for them.
