Leveling with tires

    Just FYI for anyone out there looking to go up in tire size. I put on a 2.5" Daystar leveling kit on a 2010 V6 4x4 Access Cab Tacoma and was able to clear 285/70/R17 BFG ATs. Don't need to take off front mud flaps, and maybe a couple millimeters rub with wheels cranked all the way.

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    It varies truck to truck. Some may have very minimal rubbing, while others will rub like crazy.

    Did you not have to run spacers with the factory wheels. Everywhere I have read said it would rub the uca's with 285's.

    Ride is fine. If anything, softer than stock. No spacers added. It does rub the UCA; however, it only happens when the steering is fully turned, and even then, it's barely noticeable.

    Why is that? Same setup should equal same results?

    I seem to be one of the un-lucky ones. I am running 265-70-17's with 2.5" up front and aftermarket wheels and I rub my mudflaps. I was hoping to squeak on some 285's with the greater offset of my new wheels, but now I am thinking that is not going to happen.

    Correct. Unless the OP put in softer springs, the ride will be more firm than stock.

    Production variences. If the vehicles were dimensionally, and physicaly identical, then all the results would be the same. However, there are slight differences vehicle to vehicle.

    Yes I did, it is very minor and equal on both sides.

    Honestly I don't have the sheet anymore (if I did I would be happy to share). I had the alignment done after I put the lift (5100's) on and got the tires, this was about a year ago. Last week I got new wheels and the minor rub. All I need to do is take my die grinder to the inner part of the flap and I will be fine. I may even take a flap off to measure clearance for my 285 dream.

    I only go to a very reputable shop I trust (nearly an hour from my house). They specialize in cars and trucks with aftermarket wheel/tire/suspension setups.

    I can't explain it anymore than it just feels softer up front. May be the larger tires, may be the spacer. Duno.

    Daystar spacers are made from a bushing like material. polyurethane I think. Most other spacers are steel or alum.
    With the poly spacers and combo of the larger sidewalls on the tires the front end will have more give in it making it feel softer.
