Will the Lexus OEM key (part # 89904-53511) work on 2017 tacoma limited?

    I don't see why it wouldn't.

So maybe a dumb question but does the card work like the fob, if the battery on the card goes dead you just touch it to the smart button?

Yes I did test this a few months back, just hold it to the push to start button. You will need to use the metal key inside the card (that you will need to have customer cut) to get inside the truck though.

So I had to replace my credit card key. I was able to break my old one.
DumDum me left my phone and wallet in my pockets as we boatded up our windows for Hurricane Irma. I must have put the hammer drill against my thigh for leverage and broke the key and my iPhone screen.
I wrapped tape around the key lengthwise to hold it together and it worked for about a month, but then only worked sometimes.

My brand new key came with a low battery though, it may be worth buying a battery when you buy the key. These must sit on the shelf for a while.IMG_3812.jpg

I had a hard time finding those batteries (I never tried the dealer) so I ordered a five pack so I had some spares.

Yeah me too, I bout a pack of 5 or 6 on Amazon (CR2412). Of course I can't find them so I pulled my battery out of my old card and put it in the new card.

So I have apparently lost one of my transmitters and am thinking of doing this instead of buying another fob. 2.5 Questions though, will this give me a new frequency so if someone finds my keys, will they have access/do I need to reprogram my existing fob? What is the part number for the backup key that fits in the card?

In Techstream there are two methods for adding keys. You can add additional NEW keys up to a maximum 5 keys . Adding keys like this works using the dongle and the copy of Techstream that is included with any dongle you buy. Adding keys up to 5 does not remove any 'lost keys. I added a key using this method.

In Techstream, removing a key involves resetting the immobilizer (which removes all keys) and relearning any keys you want. I did not use this method so I don't know all the details but I will give it a shot. To reset the iimmobilizer requires a 'Token' that you feed into Techstream. I believe these Tokens can be bought online, but I don't know any more details.

This vendor doesn't appear to be selling them any more, but this is what I bought, and had cut by Lexus. Should be able to get from your favorite cheap Toyota/Lexus dealer or parts.

I had to use the second method on mine. Outside of being nerve wracking it works fine.

Where do you find tokens at?

    Thanks for the response.

I believe they were being purchased at www.weboctopus.nl
There MAY be still some unused ones floating around, @erok81 maybe?

Eh, I will buy my own tokens. This whole thing is a snafu of my own making so I should bear the burden of my own stupidity. I last saw my keys halloween when I was handing out candy. Unfortunately it was cold and I had put the candy in my pocket. With my keys.... I'm 98% certain some booger eater got the keys to my taco along with a Reeses cup or snicker bar.

I should add that I have a Tile finder on my keys, so I can pinpoint exactly when and where they were lost.

    Lt. Dangle,

Try driving or walking around the neighborhood? where you handed out candy with Bluetooth on and your Tile app. set to "find". Hopefully find the house that inherited your keys...some trick or treating of your own.

That's a good idea. Even if you reset your immobilizer and delete the lost smart key, somebody still has the emergency key and can get in your truck.
