Not sure I can help you with Techstream, I did not have a compatible computer for it, so I don't know anything about it. I thought that toyotanation link in the first post may help, but I went to a locksmith. He used some type of universal programmer, it had every make and model on it, not just Toyota. I don't know what it was exactly but I imagine it was pretty expensive and not something it would be worth buying ourselves.

    Thanks man.
I needed to revisit that post in ToyotaNation again.
In Techstream, I selected the 2015 Highlander, XLE, w/smart key
Then on the main screen, I selected 'SmartKey'

Then 'Smart Key Registration', (Not classic)
    Followed the wizard instructions.
It stated I already had 2 smartkeys programmed (yes - from factory), and I proceeded to add a new one.
It worked just fine. The whole process took less than 15 min.
The wizard is pretty good to explain each step.

Thanks again for the tip. Now I just need to get the spare/emergency key cut.

Man, it is near impossible to find a locksmith in my area that will even touch this mod.

I'm like 0 for 6 so far. One guy was saying if he couldn't reset the keys correctly he was worried I would go after him for screwing it up.

What kind of world is this where an adult makes a decision and then would go after the person they asked to do a service?

Well in my experience most of the issues with any of my vehicles were caused by the said auto industry and them placing blame on me for causing the problem. Nothing like reaching down into the engine compartment and pulling out their clipboard with their work order/business name on it.

Who the hell uses a clipboard and leaves it under a hood?

It's not so much the business as much as it is just people in general. Everyone wants something for free these days. No one wants to pay. It's so simple to point the finger and cause commotion. Squeaky wheel always gets the grease.

Got mine programmed. The people at the dealership were amazed. I probably had 4 or 5 service writers wondering about it. Programmed for $65 from the dealership

What service did you ask the dealer for specifically?

I am now forced to go this route since no locksmiths in my city have the balls or know how to do this service.

    Thanks for the help.

just said I wanted this programmed to the truck. When they were skeptical I told them "Try programming it as either of these two things: 2014-15 Lexus IS250 or 2015 Highlander XLE w/Smart Key."

I'm not sure which they went with, but it worked!

It was $65 for the service to program the key. Took less than an hour.

Did they have to reprogram all of your keys or just the new one?

Tell that to my list of 11 locksmiths in OKC. They just didn't get it.

The software on their programmers might be different. Using the the stream you can add a key no problems. Some manufactures you have to wipe all keys and reprogram

    Finally!!! Success!!!

I doubt there are dozens of 3rd Gen owners here on TW that reside in the OKC area and want this specific super-rific mod, but if you are, and you do, go to Tech-Lock locksmiths on Classen Blvd.

It makes so much difference when a business owner understands customer service. I say this as someone that has spent almost 25 years in retail myself.

Every other locksmith I encountered would not even take the time to listen to what I was wanting. They would look at the information on the forum and write me and all the members on here off as know nothings.

I'm always surprised by the pure lack of creativity and drive to understand that lives in so many people. No one would even give it a go, until the team at Tech-Lock.

I showed them the key card, told them what I was trying to do, he literally said, nice, that will be cool. Then he said let me get my computer and we can give it a shot and see what works.

His system didn't have the Lexus software, so he used the 2015 Highlander set up and in five minutes, it was working.

Total cost to the shop, $30. HAHA I would have paid triple to get it working at this point.

Finally, he said, the other guys were probably doing it wrong if they were worried about the 16 minute delay, as that is only required if you wipe all the keys and then restart. He just added a key and now I am just using my wallet to get in and out of my Taco.

I feel like I'v graduated or something.

Thanks for all the information to the OP and to everyone else for your insights as well.

If this sounds like an ad for Tech-Lock in Oklahoma City, it is, those guys were awesome. I wish I had more business to send their way.

$17 for an ebay mini vci cable and dug up an old laptop from storage and got my card installed!

If any of you have a modern wallet that has rfid protection in it the Lexus card needs to be outside of that protection.

I use a Flip Side wallet and have for a couple years now, ordered a bunch of the snap on accessories for the wallet that I never used but there is a business card holder attachment which the Lexus card fits into perfectly.

    HUGE THANK YOU TO VICTORY!

Thank you OP! I hate carrying around keys, and the fob was huge.
Confirmed it also works on a 2017. I had a locksmith do it, took him all of 10 minutes.

Thank you for confirming it works in the 2017, doesn't look like anything changed with the smart key system but always nice to have confirmation.
