Lexus IS

Anyone have experience with the IS? Thinking of getting one.

not really

have had four different first gens go through various different family and friends, all of which I had a lot of seat time as both driver and as a passenger, those things handled a lot of abuse in both stick and auto trans, but lets just say not the greatest car in the snow...

had one second gen owned by a close friend which again I had a lot of seat time in as both a driver and passenger, though not as fun as a 1st gen as far as sporty toy car goes, it was however awd and performed pretty damn well through some heavy north east winters

no first hand experience in the 3rd gens, though my ladies best friend has one and it is a nice car, I personally would not hesitate to get behind the wheel

assuming the car is not 100% clapped out and over priced, should be a relatively safe purchase given it is a lexus/toyota

 

I've had 2 IS250, a 2006 AWD and 2013 RWD. Both are fun go carts, plenty of power for it's size.

Sticky/melted dash and door trims are common problems. Toyota has/had warranty programs for 10 years after initial sale date. So get a 2014 or newer.

Close to 28mpg. Back seats are for kids only and front seats are plenty comfy for 6'/200# person.

 

Experience with a 2008 and a 2014 IS 250.

The 2008 was bought with about 100k and sold it when it had about 180k. Zero problems.

The 2014 was bought a few years back with 11k and currently has 70k. Slight issue with soft inner control arm bushings being too soft, and it causes premature wear on the tires. Common issue, which can be fixed with stiffer bushings. Refer to the Lexus forums... Other than that, zero issues.

Great cars. Reliable and fun to drive around. As @InThePlains mentioned, the front seats have plenty of space.. Rears are a bit tight. Just maintain them and you'll be good.

 

They're like having a well built Mustang.

 

Why not consider a GS?
