My '21 DCSB OR with replaced Licence Plate lights is bugging the hell out of me.

    7F2CE696-AC42-414E-8714-9B7426F3FDB4.jpg

On day two of owndership I did a swap of the interior lights and Licence Plate lights over to LED. I bought a "kit" from Amazon and all have worked flawlessly until appx 6 months ago.

At that time... I observed when reversing that "sometimes" the left licence plate illumination light would start flickering. HOWEVER; most of the time it's observed to not flicker.

Alas; I took the time to swap out the LED for a new one... and, I made sure that the connection was clean, that it seated exceptionally well. And it was great!

Until... It began to flicker... intermittently again. In fact. It appears to flicker most often, then the vehicle is moving; and has been observed to stop flickering when the truck stops moving.

This would indicate to me that there is a bad connection in the harness or at the LED fitting into the receptacle.

I'd be happy to hear if anyone else has dealt with this. LED's are a bit of an enigma to me in some cases; so ... to the community I'll go.

There's a chance it's a bad connection that you can access, but more than likely failed internal components. Happens all the time. Replace em.

usually a sign the LEDs are bad. It looks like you are buying questionable ones on Amazon and such is the cost of doing so

The LEDs themselves are probably fine. The driver circuits on cheap LEDs are garbage though and that is what is probably failing. If you can, I would check to make sure there is no water inside the units.

I paid good money for Precious LED lights all around Tacoma. The license plate lights were the first to flicker and fail in under a year. Replaced them and they did it again, done with that. Same for map lights.

Odds are its the led’s. Start there. A few sets of my cheap Amazon bulbs worked fine for a year, then started flickering. Its the shit drivers they use, the leds themselves are probably fine. Unfortunately they still need to be replaced.

My apology my photo was a bit misleading (edited above for clarity too). I don’t replace the entire housing just the “T10” or whatever the LED was called. It only replaced the bulb itself.

mine are similar to these -

Any thoughts on where to go to grab some actual decent LED’s for that area?

I’m in the Vancouver Canada area and I haven’t been able to find a place to go and grab them… let alone ID what I need to search out on Amazon or anywhere else?

I had a flashing dome light LED, think it was buying too cheap on Amazon... Got what I paid for.

I own a 2014 Camry with 220K on the clock.
Every single original bulb is still in place and functioning just as they did 10 years ago. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There's something to be said for staying stock. The cop that needs to read your tag will see it just fine in the plethora of light that will be bouncing off it.

Waste of money? Sorta... I did it mostly to bring those lights to a more modern look with the whiter light.

It’s the bulbs. Both of my Diode Dynamics did it. I replaced them. At least they’re cheap.
