I had a JO pull me over for just this reason. It was a dealer frame from a large dealer in the area, so lots these plate frames around. This seems to be a big money maker for a town near my home. I paid it like a big boy and kept my mouth shut because it wasn't going to get me anywhere arguing. It turned out while it was not points on my license, it is insurance points which cost me for 3 years. Obstructing of license plate. One more year until that is gone. The officer was barely tall enough to see in my truck. What a JO he was. And trust me I am pro law enforcement. Those officers put their lives on the line and don't get the credit they deserve. That twerp deserves a beating though.

All the frames I tried obstructed the plate too much, so I plasti-dipped the edge to give it the "look" of a frame.

Wish I had a picture of the so called obstruction I got sited with. It may have covered maybe 1/8" of the word New Jersey. If that. That was on my '14 which is long gone and will never be missed.

Thanks, I'll probably redo it this summer. The derp doesn't like the cold.

Will they fit the front license plate holder? That's a funky bracket that doesn't allow conventional license plate frames.

I will check and let you know tomorrow. I just received the first batch of frames today.

I have heard of that here in FL, seems people have good luck sending a copy of the ticket and a picture of the plate/frame to the dealership manager and having the dealership reimburse the ticket.
Of course it still doesn't help with your points.

I have the back to the future free frame Toyota gave away at the end of 2016, but it doesn't obstruct "Florida" in my plate.

My frames do fit on the front bracket but not in the clips that hold the plate.

Needless to say I told them no frames on my '16.

The ticket was like $55 and I just paid it. Then my insurance bill rolled in like 6 months later. Not a lot I could do then.

Pix? I currently have a plain black steel frame that will not fit in that bracket. I tried the bare plate and I don't like it. Would love to see yours. Since CA requires a front plate I'm open to good options!

    +1 on this.
I got a $160 ticket because my 'F*ck Cancer' plate border slightly obscured half of the word Florida.

The cop literally asked me, "how am I supposed to know what state your plate is from?"

I'll post some pix after I make a few samples. The frames that I got have a 3/4 inch top which is fine for CA plates but probably not for states like TX or FL since it will cover the state name.

    Off topic....
But It has always bugged me how the license plate lights only illuminate "ACOM" at night. I'm gonna throw some wide angle lens so TACOMA is visible

I picked up a black diamond plate frame (with no lettering) and had to grind the lower part of the frame to get it to fit properly.

Toyota was nice enough to give me a broken hanging plate frame for the front. If anybody wants it, just pay shipping.

I replaced the big bulky plastic frame holder in the front with a thin plate mount and TRD frame. Had to drill a couple extra holes in bumper to secure.
