I'm gonna "finally install" mine one day too... it's been just one thing after another. The latest delay had a name.. "Ida". At this point I think I'll just wait for the weather to start to cool in another two or three weeks . . . :amen:

If you can dodge a wrench, you can install a DIR :)

Seriously, if you aren't chugging it, it should take longer to finish your 12 oz beer than install this mod. Remove taillight, unplug reverse, plug in T, fish through the hole, zip tie, reinstall taillight. Feed T over to license intercept, unplug, connect to T, zip tie and test.

Or test before zip tie-ing. Only two potentially tricky parts to it, the first is extracting the taillight from the pop-in retention clips and the second is getting the female reverse connector off the bulb (which is much easier with 3+ hands, one for the squeeze, one to pry, one to cradle taillight).

Also, on a separate note, the relays I use for these are sold out everywhere and won't be in until November. I'm now sourcing them from an alternate location and they cost twice as much. I'm going to increase prices by $5 once the remaining inventory is sold to account for that. I know this is already a bit of a high price in terms of value added but I also don't really want to put myself in a position where the ~30 minutes per harness approaches minimum wage, I'd rather just stop making them.

I am toying with the idea of offering a version at the same price with generic connectors rather than OEM spec which could offset the higher cost of the relays. I tend to think at this price point that an extra $5 for maximum quality is the obvious choice. If anyone wants to chime in on that topic (generic vs OEM connector) feel free to. Anyone reading this and on the fence, just please be prepared for a $5 price hike sometime around October 1st given current buying trends.

Far as I know I am.the one dave is talking about with the DIY route.

I did it, because I like to do my own work. And I was ordering some spare parts and other items for future use.

Going the DIY route is NOT going to save you money for a one off build. Buy it from Dave and take advantage of him buying parts in bulk.

But I am also the guy who bought $3k in tools to build a bed rack that i could have bought a very similar design for a fraction of that price. Like I said I like the DIY route and its about building stuff, and sometimes it cost more for the ability to say I built that...

You didn't, sales are open, down to my last 1 in inventory but I was planning to make more, just haven't had a chance to crank on that b/c of so many headlight harness orders.

If I get too far behind I'll post a note but for the time being I am hopeful I can keep up with the demand on these two fronts and ship in a very timely manner.

I installed mine yesterday and it could not have been more simple. Didn’t know how bad the visibility on the camera was until I see it now.

If you’re even thinking about it, don’t think, just get it. Best quick mod ever. Thank you @daveeasa

No, you sent 5 zip ties that aren't in the photo. All very nicely packaged and about to be installed.

I sometimes wake up in a cold sweat "I forgot the zip ties"!

    @Puppypunter would be amused.

It's all installed and waiting for darkness to try it out. Any other day the sun sets to early... Today it's not soon enough.

Edit: How do I get in the fan club, and what does FBC stand for?

You are in, and it's a trade secret, you have to ask someone who knows and isn't me.

The thing with the DIR is you instantly forget you have it unless you ever take it out or get in someone else's truck. Then you get pissed off way worse than before, knowing you shouldn't have to have lights shining at your camera but, yes, there they are, just to piss you off...

Backing out of the car hole. I can't wait to try it out in a darker spot. So much less noise in the image!
