I submitted the form as your requested since I'm pretty close after 23. Was this ok to do?

Not really but I believe @Puppypunter has one extra he can send to you if you arrange payment to him.

Everyone else above #23 please hold off for now. We'll have to see how 5 days goes, it might be a bit too long if we want to just get these into the hands of people who want them the most.

Nah, it's good, I had actually mentioned to him that you were quite motivated and he should send you a @Puppypunter original. Just don't want anyone else piling on quite yet. I think it's reasonable to assume we'd have gotten to your spot with this first batch but I don't want to break my own rules quite yet. I may have to shorten the timeout for non-responsive wait-listers to 3 days next time but for now it seems fair enough to give them the week.

OK, so, I talked this over with @Puppypunter and he wants to go ahead and sell off the template which he sent to me to review. It's the same as the ones he shipped out from his last batch. That would open up one more spot in line so if you want it you can have it.

I guess it slightly depends on if you want the knockoff (me) or the original. New coke or classic coke. It might be a tough call.

I'm going to take it out and run it through my tester right now to confirm it's 100% perfect.

As someone that never liked New Coke, I’d like to think it’s between Cocaine Coke and Classic Coke.

This is an issue that's drove me crazy since I got the truck. After having to back down my mother-in-law's driveway the other night, I'm definitely in for this. Please add me to the list.

    hey @Puppypunter @daveeasa

I don't know the TW rules, but you might be able to set up ebay/etsy accounts for this stuff too, they would completely handle payment and shipping information. I'm sure they take some level of a finders fee, too. But just a thought so you don't have to try to run it yourself if you keep this up long term.

I’ve definitely thought about just doing eBay. I worry about the potential scale though. I am enjoying this as a bit of a hobby and to improve my skills. If it turns into hundreds of harnesses that’s an entirely different animal. Because if it starts taking time away from my work responsibilities or parenting responsibilities then it becomes a liability.

Based on the math I’ve done it’s roughly minimum wage and a non-profit entity. Mostly because I am slow. I think I can improve my speed and I have options for various levels of assistance. And Johnny continues to come up with ideas for streamlining.

But I think to produce these at scale would mean contracting with a sweat shop to produce some/most of the harness. And that turns it into more of a job than a labor of love. Competing with manufacturing in China or the Philippines is not really possible for something as simple as this with no legitimate IP.

My father, a doctor, once said something surprisingly prescient to me as a young lad. He said, “Don’t work where other men play.” It was in reference to my consideration of obstetrics at the time as I was working as a clerk in the L&D ward during college. It was a point well received. MESO manages to do a lot with the business and his vehicle projects but I’m sure his business work takes a bigger toll than anyone outside realizes. My truck is for fun and my crimping as well.

My real job (fin tech) is not overly exciting but it’s been very reliable during uncertain times. I’m well optimized to it, there is an infinite supply, I have good job security and benefits, and it’s well compensated. I couldn’t do this project without that leg to stand on.

For now it’s 1-3h every 1-5 nights worth of time away from screens and children. A form of mental therapy for me, not unlike woodworking but less likely to wake anyone up.

Not yet but hit up @Puppypunter directly as he is working on a prototype for someone else.

You can just set what's in stock and what's not. You make 10? Put 10 in stock. They sell, they sell, :notsure:

I agree with the rest of it though.

True but who does that serve? I’m focused on the community here as I’ve learned so much from others and the discussion. EBay is just a marketplace without any real community or forum.

I think eBay only solves the shipping label generation aspect. I still have to tape it on the box or buy labels. USPS has tools for small business as well.

Where eBay helps the most is free advertising via search. That’s actually how I found my truck (bought it used because my wife wasn’t keen on it and I didn’t want to spend $45k+). Then they also have some dispute resolution tools but I prefer the TW community and mods for that part. I’ve had a few (rare) encounters with unreasonable buyers and scamming sellers on eBay and it’s made me sad in the past. It’s just more of a shark tank than safe harbor.
