I have been researching for months about lifting my 2012 Tacoma Double Cab TX Pro. I only plan on being off road on old logging roads and some deep ruts/holes for hunting. No extreme situations, and very slow approaches to problem areas.

I have decided to forgo the spacer route or the 5100's as i feel like it will lead to more problems later. I am pretty set on the OME 885 with nitro sport shocks.

What is the average lift height from this set up?
Do you need the 5MM spacer to eliminate the taco lean?
Do you need the carrier bearing relocation kit?
Do you need the Rear Diff Shim kit?
Will this set up be level with a 1.5" AAL?
Does anyone have this set up that can show what it looks like afterwards?

I am not mechanically inclined and many threads suggest different things such as UCA, and many other mods. All of those things state if needed, with lack of knowledge I wouldn't know if those were needed even if they did. I am looking for a bolt on suspension replacement if that makes sense. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to install 265/75/16 Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX if I can find them.

Bilstein 5100's at 0 with 885 springs. UCA's for alignment purposes only.

-Yes i installed a taco lean spacer
-I didn't need the carrier bearing drop. However i did install in an effort to get rid of an unknown vibration that ended up being a front wheel bearing.
    -no rear diff shim kit
-Yes i am running the Icon AAL sits level
-go with 285's you wont regret it.

Thanks for the reply. Your truck look great, and really has the profile I'm going for.

I now have a few additional questions though.

I couldn't find the 5MM spacer on wheelers site. Does OME not have that as an option?
Why the 5100's with OME 885? just because it is adjustable?
1.5" AAL? Are AAL universal? I know I have a different set up from earlier 2nd gens. I think I have one less leaf and maybe they are mounted different (above or below axle)

285's are ideally what I want, however due to budget concerns I cannot afford new offset wheels. I also do not wish to do the chop mods. Mud flaps I could deal with, but not the cab. Also, I cannot afford to do the UCA's at this time either. It was my impression that for 285's that I needed a full 3" lift, and also a 4.5 backspacing on wheels or a wheel spacer.

For the 285's with OME would I have to use the 5MM spacer and the 1/2" lift enhancers to make them fit?

Sorry for all the questions, but I feel like i am biting off more than I can chew, and want to make sure I gain as much knowledge as I can before purchasing.

285's wont fit without chopping regardless of lift. there just isnt enough room in the wheelwell to be able to fit it at stuff and lock.

-OME 885s with a single AAL in the rear
-1/4 inch spacer (5100s) / trim packer (OME shocks) is needed
-Put on uniball UCAs at the start to ensure proper alignment
-NO CB drop and no shims
-285/75r16 on stock wheels (spacers were needed to clear UCA)

Edit - I also have steel skid plates causing the front end to sag a little

I am stuffing 285/70R17s with just some slight rubbing to my inner fender and flares that is now remedied. At full lock stuffed I barely contact my cab mount.

this is the taco lean plate i bought for my drivers side.

-I went with the 885's and 5100's because my buddy who influenced me to buy a tacoma probably put near 10,000 dirt miles on this exact setup. His truck rode and looked great so i stuck with what i knew. Didn't wanna try to be different and regret it.
-Yea mines a 1.5" AAL from Icon. not 100% familiar with all the different tacoma setups, but its the only Icon AAL pack I could find for our trucks.
-My wheels have a 4.5 backspace, I didn't have to cut the cab mount(I have UCA's with 3 degrees of castor though), but i did end up chopping a shit load of plastic off the inner fender. With the 265's you shouldn't have to trim or cut anything

What is your caster set at and have you fully stuffed the tire into the wheel well?

Caster is near 2 on each side, stuffed they barley rub by just a hair. You have to get the correct wheel specs and get an alignment tech that is willing to work with you, not just someone that pops the truck up gets it in spec and sends it out the door

I am running 3.7* positive caster (0 toe and 0 camber) and still hit the cab mount at full stuff before i cut it. Granted, if i could run less offset with an aftermarket wheel instead of the spacers that might not be as big of an issue.

Also very surprised you are not hitting the cab mount with only 2* of caster. It is crazy how different each truck is.

My friend has the same truck i do just a year older and rubs with 265s. I don’t understand what is so different about every truck but clearly there is something alittle different with them all

Doesnt rub cus you never actually use your suspension. Crawling the mall doesnt count.

I have seen it where some trucks rub some don't there are a lot of factors wheel offset lift, caster angle etc. And each truck is different so it's hard to tell which ones will rub or not.

Correct. But if you took all the suspension components out and just took a 285 mounted on a rim and tried to put it up in the wheel well and move it around you would see there isnt much if any clearance necessary.

Like i said and ill say it again, dont rock crawl. Beach, snow, trails. Dont rub for anything i use the truck for so please tell me why i would try to forcefully make it rub by doing something i never do? Does not make much sense huh?
