Where I live, fog is of almost no concern. Dust is my concern here in AZ and there is A LOT of floating dust in my line of sight so I prefer amber up top. Being visible to oncoming vehicles on dusty trails is a concern too, so up high works best for me. Same reason my chase strobe is mounted to my Prinsu above my cab brake light. All of my ambers(lightbar, sidepods, chase strobe) are top-most mounted.

So in your experience mounting ambers high up is better for desert driving? I’m in SoCal, and most of my time is spent out here in the desert as well. Thanksgiving weekend we were out in Anza Borrego, and I’d like to get some ambers mounted because holy cow the dust…

So basically… do you think the Baja Designs pods replacing the OEM fogs would still do the job well if they’re down low? Would a 30” amber light bar in the lower grill be more effective? Right now its one or the other for me, sounds like the higher the better.

Yes, amber higher up is absolutely my preference for the desert. If you’re doing high-speed desert racing, you’d probably want white light cast out as far as possible but I’m doing none of that. As I mentioned, pretty much everybody in the desert runs amber chase lights up high for visibility too, so logic would dictate amber light higher up running forward would work very well too. Certainly does for me.

ANY amber light in ANY location would be a better bet than just your OEM white lighting n the desert dust though.

Same, its nothing high-speed I’m doing. I’ll look at some upper grille options then, I don’t want to mount to the roof quite yet, regardless of drilling/not drilling. I just like the OEM+ look.

    I appreciate it!

I am in Southern New Mexico, Probably the same kind of dust as in Arizona. I run my Amber/Yellow Lights Low and try to get them low in the dust for better visibility. It kind of works the same as being in Fog for me.

Hey, whatever works best for you.

When it all comes down to it for me, my lightbars are roughly 8” apart and I think one is better off having both amber & white light sources rather than entertaining slight differences in height placement for each color. Swapping either from higher to lower isn’t going to be a miraculous revelation in visibility when they’re relatively close together to begin with.

I agree, I run Amber/Yellow Baja Designs Squadrons and Clear Diode Dynamics SAE Side By Side.

Finally got everything finished....well sort of. Very close I still need an oem switch for the light bar, but went factory style on the fog and replaced the turn indicator stalk...which was a bit of a project but worked out great. I went big on the fogs (DD SS3 Max) and went more budget friendly on the light bar (pro-comp 2 row - like $150). It turned out pretty awesome, excited for some nasty weather!
