If I were to just replace my low-beam light blub, what should I get?

    There are 3 options.

    New Halogen
    LED
    HID

The preferred and best solution is HID

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hyluxtek-hid-kit-with-cnlight-ball-bulbs.457461/

H9 bulbs have been used for low beams and are brighter. Indifferent to brand.
LEDs are ok and match well for aesthetics but fall short in overall performance
HIDs match aesthetically, offer best overall light performance.

I just replaced my Head lights and Fog lights with LED Bulbs from Amazon made by AuxBeam and they were about $50 a set. They are very bright and offer the true white 6k light. I got the 60 watt set and they were very easy to install. I love them!

I don't know what the hate is with LED's. My lights are super bright. I have also submerged my LED fogs in water and they still work. Can't complain for $50.

I do understand what you mean by the LED's may not line up properly, but I have projectors for headlights and have re aligned them as to not effect oncoming drivers. Good read!

Im more interested in what a light blub is now.

I'd normally say HID for sure, but check out the new diode dynamics SL1 LED kits due to come out in January.

So you are more selfishly interested in having 'super bright lights' with no cut off that blind everyone and are a significant safety hazard to other motorist. Clearly you didn't even read the thread. And you are in "Law Enforcement"? Great job at serving and protecting.

    Just a few LEDs...
There are many here (including myself) that jumped on the LED headlight band wagon a couple of years ago. Most of the LED headlights at the time were great at first. Some even had a halfway decent beam pattern and cut-off. However, one by one they started to fail not just once but several times after replacements of the replacement failed. Eventually most people simply threw them in the trash and went back to the factory halogens.

Don't get me wrong, I love LEDs, as if you couldn't tell by looking at pictures of my truck. The problem is we haven't found a way to get the Chinese to produce a cost effective and reliable product yet.

That's why diode dynamics started making them in the USA right in St Louis.

diode dynamics has a 3 year warranty so I guess you have that. I don't have them but I guess that's a plus. I think our lows are h11? I'm using the h9 mod and its better but meh. would like something better though, that fits well.

Mine had a 2 year warranty and were marketed by PlasmaGlow. Others had the identical bulbs marketed by Lifetime LED with a lifetime warranty. Warranties are great as long as the company is still in business and you don't have to wait weeks at a time for replacement headlights.

I agree with that. What good is a waranty if you have to use it repeatedly? You're still stuck with a junk part. I've only heard good things about DD, so we'll see how they do.

I'm all for LED headlights but they will need to have a color temperature low enough (less than 6000k) with a significant portion of the output in the yellow spectrum to be worth anything. Bright white lights with peaks in the blue spectrum won't throw very far.

I'm still skeptical too lol. I am all about OEM HID. That's why I went with RX350 projectors and osram CBI bulbs in my truck. I would love to see a legit drop in LED kit come to the market that is reliable.

Performance means more to me than a reputation. I'd like to see some specs, test results, longevity etc. Anyone can make claims, print them and put them on a box, but the real test is performance over time.

Doesn't do you much good if a company prints a bunch of BS marketing performance claims and closes up shop after you bought the product.
