Hey TW. So I'm running light racin upper control arms. I've been hearing a sounds in my passenger side upper control arm recently and it's getting worse. Any one have any input as to what it could be? I'm thinking maybe the ball joint? Sounds like crap and don't want to take my truck all apart yet. Thanks for any help!

Do you have the greasable ball joint LR UCA's? If so, Id give it a few pumps and make sure everything is tight.

Believe so. They are the newer ball joints.

Check your UCA nut on the long bolt to make sure it didn't work it's way loose. Mine did the same thing and that's what I found.

I think he's referring to the main long bolt at the top that you can reach with the tires on.

good luck. i'm planning to install tomorrow. wish me luck. already prepared the new UCAs. Attempted the install this evening but ran out of time before I got the first bolt off. Rather do it with a clear head, more light, and possibly a friend that's done it.

The one that holds the ball joint in should, yes.

83 lbs on the long main bolt.

    Mason,

Any updates on this? I am getting some noise on the driver side when i hit some dips, and I also have some LR UCAs. I might have a ball joint that is ripping, because I have some grease coming out. I haven't checked it in daylight yet.

Yes, in the process of replacing my passenger side ball joint. Will actually be replacing both sides and greasing them till they drown. Passenger side was bone raw.

No wonder I couldn't get mine loose. I asked the shop doing my alignment to grease the ball joint for me.

Any idea what size that nut is? It's huge, I'll have to get a new socket for it.

So, I think I need to replace both ball joints on my SPC LR UCA's. Both have this much movement and noise coming from them:
    https://youtu.be/wAnQlPVrKGw

Installed in May 2014 at 22,326 miles, now sitting at 40,500 miles. So just over 18,000 miles. Mine aren't the grease-able variety, but even still I expected them to last longer than 18,000 miles.....

Call SPC directly for warranty if you're in warranty period. I had a little play in my passenger side when I had an alignment done. Took about an hour and I had them shipping out replacements for a $50 core charge. About a week later I had a local shop install the new ones and then shipped my old ones back. Got my $50 core charge back too. SPC was super easy to deal with. The new ball joints are grease-able where as the original design were not.
