hi everyone I have read up on some issues with the lightbars (after I installed my 52 inch lightbar and found this issue) I have tried wind deflectors on the top and bottom and they don’t work as there isn’t enough room on the mounts. Also tried the door black edging tape and it still makes the noise defiantly is coming from the vents on the lightbar as the wind deflectors did somewhat work.

Has anybody tried cutting the vents right off?

The lightbar I have is a 52 inch curved mounted on caliraised mounts

That’s why light bars don’t belong on roofs.

man. i hate it when engineers put stupid things on parts just to make them look cool but never test them. if they drove just a tiny bit they would have heard the noises. cut them off but be careful not to slice the transmometer, or the light may flash randomly.

It’s not on the roof there bud. It’s mounted flush with the top of the windshield

Those fins are there for a reason... you could try covering the triangle parts of the mounts abs see if that's it or putting sound deadener on your roof

I know they are there for a reason but what is that reason is it to disapate heat from the back of the bar which doesn’t really need vents to do that? Honestly it’s a stupid design flaw that if I realized it did that I would’ve gone a different option....

Damn near every LED bar is made like that. I'm sure you'll get used to it haha. You could try one of these or ask on this thread if it helps at all. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/roof-mounted-led-light-bar-glare-solved.377416/

Just saying but the fins on light bars are heat syncs, they are required unless you want to burn your light bar to a crisp from overheating

I’d go this route if you can’t figure out the noise issue.

It is a heat sink. The main point is to have the most surface area to dissipate the heat. Airflow through this is not necessary but an added temperature reducer. With led's its the chipsets that generate heat, not the led itself.

If you drive in reverse is the whistle still there?

Coworker even said it's harder to see through dust storms and such if its on the roof since the light will reflect close to the windshield. Better to have some cubes mounted to the hood or light on a bumper.

Have cubes on the hood as well don’t get too much dust here in bc as the rain keeps it on the ground

OP, I think your best bet it to fabricate a fairing that goes around it and closes the gap to the windshield/roof. Something like this:

    34DE217D-3ABD-4264-A8EA-D28A5F3A59D8.jpg

I’m gonna have to disagree with you on that one. Yes, the fins are passive heatsinks..but the drivers don’t generate the heat(at least not as much as the LED itself)The chipsets do.
Here’s a quick pick I grabbed of a LED. Notice the board it’s mounted to is conductive(solid aluminum), and is made to mount a heatsink directly to the back because they can get toasty.
