with a little help from the crowd we got this buggy back on all 4 and it drove away a little worse for wear.

Next up was Mark Schultz and dang this was proving to be a tough spot
    IMG_20220501_133522.jpg
At least he made it on the wall. When he bumped the back axle up the wall the belly pan smacked the rock face so hard the impact threw the distributor cap and rotor off leaving him stranded on the wall.

My sister stopped by to see how her stock wheels were looking on my 1st gen

This was not how I expected to spend Mother's day

Crisis averted, transmission is shifting smoothly again and the valve train sounds like it should.

It's always a good sign when there's a big hole in the box.

    IMG_20220513_154840.jpg
No missing pieces, no problems

    IMG_20220513_174534.jpg

Get the big hole over with first
    IMG_20220513_181936.jpg
Once you have that first major hole you can line up the snorkel flush with the fender and make any adjustments you deem necessary from here.

    IMG_20220513_213233.jpg
I added a little FIPG between the A pillar and the bracket as well as each hole before placing (driving?) the rivits just for a little extra mental comfort

Everything was going well right up until the moment I popped the first rivit and the stud got jammed in my old hand me down riviter.
I was really not expecting problems at this stage and I usually find rivits oddly satisfying not frustrating.
With one rivit in place and A 15min clock on the FIPG I took the riviter to the vice and broke it down Barney style
    IMG_20220513_200058.jpg
Removed the stud and popped the bottom rivit in place only to find it jam once again and I accidentally dropped the stud to the 3rd rivit down into the A pillar. Pretty sure I'll never see it again and being that I haven't used rivits in the past 5 years I had to go buy a pack and figured I'd buy a cheap riviter since this ol Stanley is being troublesome

    IMG_20220513_213929.jpg

What a flop. I had 1 rivit for the new riviter to do and it popped the stud in the wrong spot and wouldn't bite back on to what was remaining so I used the jam happy Stanley after all.
    IMG_20220513_213907.jpg

    IMG_20220513_223919.jpg

Now it's time to go Scooba diving
    IMG_20220515_211108_350.jpg
Scary deep broo almost needed it

    IMG_20220515_211152_477.jpg

I actually ended up finding a perfect replacement spring for the Stanley a couple day later and it's working good as new. Home depot can have their crappy one back

The crack in my valve cover finally started leaking. I can honestly say I'm impressed. I cracked it almost a year ago and had a replacement Doorman cover in the parts shelf for about 7 months. I even took it with me during Christmas vacation just in case
    IMG_20220516_184557.jpg
:anonymous: yes that's daylight in the crack

It's nice to see the motor oil is keeping things looking fresh

    IMG_20220516_183810.jpg
I was happy when I looked at the clock and realized I finished everything in just over 3 hours

I was however finished with the stock air intake tube falling apart
    IMG_20220516_211901.jpg
I couldn't find the missing piece for the lift of me and I never even noticed the end ripping off until I went to put in back on
    IMG_20220524_191738.jpg
It sat there for 2 days before I noticed it IMG_20220524_191826.jpg
But I don't need it anymore..

I replaced a bunch of vacuum lines today using Silicone Intake System's Silicone Boost/Vacuum Hose Engine Dress Up Kit in red (black was out of stock also available in blue). I also replaced the air intake tube for the Airaid intake tube from Jegs instead of the OEM option.

Been wanting to do this. Was this a kit or did it come in a roll to cut to length?

You cut them to size. I didn't use a single foot of the longest hose they sent me 10ft of 4mm I think and ran short of the 8mm hose that fit the most things

Thank you for taking the time to go through it:hattip:

    :angrygirl:
If I asked nicely first could I drive it? promise I won't fry the clutch

I've got another handful of parts that should be arriving soon including some DuroBumps for the Lower Control Arms because of how I have been driving this thing

    IMG_20220527_170049.jpg

I did end up using a little piece of the 10ft 4mm Silicone hose
    IMG_20220527_150524.jpg

I also got an email about a discount code from Silicone Intake solutions today

On an unrelated note, great customer service!

Also took care of something I noticed missing. little details make a difference

It’ not the clutch I’m worried about.

How much of a PITA is it to replace all of the vacuum hoses?

Most of them are really easy and with strong enough fingers you don't even need plyers. It also helps that there's a diagram right inside the hood.
Sometimes the hoses stick and that can be a pain in the ass but if you are replacing them you can just splice the vacuum line open and end that fight

Every now and then when I go to shut the back door on the drivers side the door just bounce off the latch. I've tried cleaning it and added graphite a few times to no avail. so I ordered a replacement from Toyota last Wednesday

I anticipated this bad boy would ferment on the shelf for a while but hit a second wind today and thought I better get what I have installed before the rest of my parts start showing up.

A clean work space is important to me especially when my allergies flare up

After three 10mm nuts, three #30 torques screws and three plastic clips you can pull the assembly out. There's also 2 more small Philips screws that hold the electric lock mechanism to the latch assembly
    IMG_20220527_213225.jpg
If only the new parts could just stay clean forever

I like to do a function check and close the door and make sure the locks are working before putting the door panel back on

I also went ahead and replaced 4 of the warn our panel clips

A bit of a pain in the neck but that's what it's all about and now my door shuts with a satisfying thump instead of shattering clang

Good to know. When I did the valve cover job, I checked all my lines pretty good. Didn’t seem to see any issues yet. At around 200k I’ll end up changing them.

However, I’ve been looking into where to install my accessory busman fuse box for some lights I’ll be installing. Maybe when I get under the hood to do that I’ll replace them.

x2 on what @Madjik_Man said on the build thread. I’ve gotten a lot of ideas from yours and have enjoyed following it. Love me a neat, no fuss and to the point build thread.

    :hattip: :humble:

I'm glad I could give you some ideas but for the safety of us all please don't do anything I would do
    :fistbump:

I'd like to have a good accessory fuse panel. there are some amazingly clean installs out there. I'm still looking for a few ideas for that myself

There are so many things to add but never enough space.

I've given the ABS system a dirty look once or twice imagining a second battery

Yep. I’m currently debating between whether to mount mine on the drivers side where there is next to no space or run everything to the passenger side and wire a fuse panel there where there is a lot more real estate.

Looking at the blue sea panel which is actually a marine panel. Still up in the air.

I also suck with electrical but I am ocd which will balance itself out hopefully.
