great for everything.... (maps, etc) except music. for me, music is about quality and via BT just doesn't cut it.

Yes on the package and no on the taxes. But that was before haggling; just opening offer from their internet sales rep.

I have been saving for a year now. By the time the 16's come out, I will have the majority of it paid for. The question is if it will be the majority of a 2015 or a 2016.

They got rid of the handle because no one uses it on the drivers side, we have a steering wheel to grab on to, better field of vision without it.

the go-pro mount comes standard on all the 4x4 models is what i saw on one of the videos from Detroit. and I'm pretty sure so does the wireless charging. I'm just glad toyota finally made the decision not to have the most basic truck on the market. Also thank god for a nice leather interior and that new waterproof seating like they had in the FJ's

And if you're not holding onto the steering wheel, as the driver, you'll really find yourself in an "oh shit" situation.

I understand the logic but I look at it from a completely different perspective. You'd be willing to pay $32k for a new truck that came out in 2005 but you wouldn't pay $40k for a truck that's 10 years newer in technology? I understand not having the extra money but to me, $32k for a ten year old design is just a terrible decision. I paid $28k for my loaded 4x4 TRD Sport w/ towing package in 2009 and you're going to pay an extra $4k for essentially the exact same truck 5 years later. In terms of value per dollar spent, I can't help but disagree with the logic. I would think you should go buy a gently used 2nd gen instead of paying full price for the exact same truck. Just my two cents.

The BT bandwidth pipe (in terms of bits per second) is much better than most realize. You can get fairly good quality over BT and at 50mph I doubt you could even tell the difference. As long as the source material is a good recording on a 320kbps or 192kbps MP3 it will sound darn good.

And this is coming from someone who designs and builds high end home audio speakers. :D

But i agree, a direct connection is ALWAYS preferred.

I agree. Besides the 2016 will most likely have a higher resale valve to offset the higher price to buy new. Gotta take in consideration resale value if you guys like to trade in trucks so often.

I would go for the 3rd gen if I were in your shoes. But would wait until the buying frenzy dies down to get a good price. Unless you are hardcore offroading and need the mechanical 4x4 instead of the all electrical 4x4 most new 4x4 are going towards.

While I haven't messed around with one, I really like what Tesla does with their screen. Still their own interface but very similar and effing HUGE!

There's no way even a similar equipped off road as what we saw in double cab won't be pushing 36-38k. Gotta think they already sell the offroad/sport double cabs for 32-34k. Toyota isn't going to cut into their current profit margins and that extra tech and reskin costs. They know there are fanboys and people will pay.

Naturally prices will go up. Loaded 3/4 ton diesel trucks go for $70k and loaded 1/2 ton trucks go for $60k now. Loaded Tacomas were $30k at the time loaded 1/2 tons were going for $40k.

I don't see any great deals on the 2016 when the initial demand dies down. I bought my 07 in January of 07 and there wasn't much of a discount offered. Best I could find was 1300 off and 0% financing. 2nd gen Tacomas were never heavily discounted as far as I know. One of the reasons resale has stayed high.

Agreed they sell all of them every year with no deals. Lol. They will be smart sell all the 2015's or almost all and then start shipping 2016s. And I guarantee no special rebates or financing because they know people are chopping at the bit to get the latest and greatest taco (some people here already are placing "orders")

Trust me, I agree with the logic. I looked for a gently used 2nd gen and I cannot see saving $3k on a truck that has 50k+ miles and not knowing what has been done with it. I am pretty set on getting a 2016, unless it is rediculously priced or something is just "wrong" with a test drive (and i cannot imagine what that would be).

    I appreciate the feedback! :)

Are you sure the 10 yr newer technology is actually going to be a plus for the user? Looks like a bunch of interior bling and a big play at CAFE. To be honest the new tech probably is a good thing, but on the other hand a similar argument could be made for the lower risk of a 10 yr proven and debugged platform compared to being the first buyer of just not a new truck but an engine that has never been in any other vehicle before. It is really hard to say until we see the pricing, and we won't know whether being first to the dealer for the 2016 was a good move or not until four or five years down the road.

$28K in 2009 is $31K in 2014 with inflation. So he's only paying $1K more now. Oh, and the OR costs about $400 more than the Sport. So it doesn't seem like he's any worse off than you were in 2009 price wise.

Ugh, no way. The resale is way too high. I just have to spend ten minutes here on TW to see what sort of moronic things people do with their trucks to know that a $3K discount on a truck with 50K on it that could have been run with a dry K&N filter or god knows what else done to it is not a good savings. Penny wise and pound foolish for sure.

But yes, the buy 2015 vs buy 2016 is an interesting question - one I'm tackling at the moment. Not sure there is a single "right" answer as it is user dependent nor is there even enough information at this point to make a good evaluation.

Very good point. There's something to be said for buying vehicles farther along in their production run.

My friend recently traded her 2009 Jeep Wrangler with 45K on a 2015. Both are 2 door JK Wranglers with V6, 6 speed manual, convertible top. In 2012 the 3.8 V6 was replaced with an all new 3.5 engine. That was an obvious improvement she was aware of since it delivers more torque, 80 more hp, and better mpg. But the biggest surprise was all the little tweaks and improvements Jeep did to the JK over 6 years. Door seals, the soft top, interior and seats, NVH, all are improved. The supposedly same transmission snicks into gear in a way the old one never did.

2015 models will depreciate rapidly in the next few years. Think about buying a used model in 2018. Would you get a 2016/2017 model with decent MPG (25?), or a 2015 model that gets 17 MPG? No one will want the 2015 models.

I would buy a 2015 this year if I found a really good bargain, or the 2016 models are a rip off. Its a tough choice to say right now.

and by rapidly you mean slightly faster than the already very slow pace. that's just the way it works.
