There was one trip that I wanted/ needed the tailgate closed. It was on an 16hr trip . We deflated the tires, took the bottom fairing off and put blocks under the engine to support the wieght. That way we didn't destroy the wheels or tires. Tailgate closed and we strapped her down nice and snug.

It looks like your front tire is not in the corner. Make sure the bike can't shift at all, wedge the front tire into the corner.

True. Its close. This was a trial fit. When the time comes it'll be hard in the corner. Forks compressed. Rear tire tied off so it can't swing/move etc

How much weight can our tailgates take when they are in the lowered position?

1997 t4r has super duty axles, 5.13s locked front and rear. 3 link front with 14" kings. Rear 63s.
I used long ramps loading my yfz450 and me so about a total of around 600 maybe on the very end of the tail gate with ramps. I'm 265 and a quad is around 400lbs maybe

Side note I would x my straps and put my back tires in the middle of the tailgate and would have room for my gear bag, gas can and my cooler. Slid the ramps under the quad. If I had to pull a trailer I would take the cables and loop them over the latch loops so it didn't hit the jack

Put a TAC on the back so the cable wouldn't slide off.

it looks like if the bike in the pic was steered to the right, the bike might go in the bed more, allowing closure of the gate?

Things have changed. I now have a 2015 F-150 6.5' bed, XLT, 4x4, FX4, all this jazz. The bike can fit in the back with the tail turned a tinnnnyyyy bit to the side and the gate closes.
No way it'd close with the taco. No way. The tire was pushed hard against that corner piece in the front and no way it would close in the rear.

At any case, I sold that 25' 2014 Travel Trailer you see in the background and now bought a 2016 35' toy hauler with gas station on board, all this cool shit, so the bike wont be in the bed for track days either :)
Of course, now I am trying to sell my 2015 F-150 for a F-250 6.7L Diesel. Fuck man, I lost $ left and right :) The F-150 with MaxTow and that 420ftlb torque engine can pull this 35' trailer, but I need to keep my bed empty (payload) and just be careful where I go, cuz just because you can pull it, doesnt mean you can stop it. I gotta be watchful.
