Just wanted to start a thread for those who want to give tips and share stories and photos of their lobster season. I finally caught my first lobster ever while hooping in Long Beach, CA. Video below of the catch and cook! Looking forward to seeing everyone else's tips and stories.

Here in Hawaii you can catch lobsters by rods and reels, cliffs or straight down a wall, or using stiff pole only. We have caught lobster “torching”.
I have drop lobster traps from cliffs. Hard work for sure.

I know many people prefer eating the tails only, we love the so call juices in the heads, scoop out what we can and enjoy this the most! Especially add this to rice!

True lobster eaters know inside the head of the lobster is the best tasting parts of the lobsters!
    Aloha

Absolutely! I used a lot of the tamale in the lobster bisque. It was delicious!

Hawaii lobster season is now close from May 1st 2022 - August 31st 2022 .
There are many types of lobsters, the main ones is the spiny, and slipper lobsters.

There is a species of the smaller slippers lobsters with NO close season. Usually caught in the more shallow depths. Not many Hawaii fisherman and divers are aware?

Ever hear of “mopping for lobsters?” Divers would use a mop head on a pole, push in the holes and tangle the mop head to the feelers of the lobsters and pull them out! Documented in a old hawaii fisherman book.

How to Devein a spiny lobster? The easiest and quickest way? Break one of the feelers off, poke the larger end into the “butt hole” push it all the way in, when you pull it out it will pull the vein out. Deveining the lobster tail.
    Aloha,
