I just realized I never updated. I got mine and put in. Installation is straight forward, the box fits well in the intended space. The supplied hardware is sub par, especially the Jack nuts. The finished product is OK for lockable storage, but is not "gun vault" quality or security. It will stop the casual thief who is not packing tools other than a slim jim and screwdriver. Considering the Taco does not come with any locking storage, I am glad I got it, but it is not the be all end all I was hoping for.

Can you give us an idea of what the deficiencies are? Metal thickness too thin, locks sparse, etc?

Ok, how hard could it be to fashion a metal box lid (a flat piece of metal with a rolled edge the same size as the removable plastic lid) piano hinged to a metal top edge and a lock for the AC under seat storage? There are definitely enough 05-15 AC trucks on the road to make a market for these. And it could easily be sold for under $75.

What I'm implying here is that you leave the plastic box intact, but remove the plastic lid. Create a self-rimming metal lid such that the rim encircles the box opening and screws into the existing holes (after you remove the push connectors). The rim is attached by a piano hinge to the lid which when closed conceals the screws.

I'm probably one of the majority who aren't,going to be running around with handguns in their cars all the time, and just want relatively secure but inexpensive way to satisfy the law, should we get pulled over.

Update to Access cab version. If we were to get enough pre-orders, we would need at least 25, we will move forward with the release. The Tacoma Double Cab has not been as successful as we had hoped, so an investment into the access cab would be limited. This will not work however for the 2016-2017 Access cab since they decided to put that weird cup holder in. Email us at trucks@esptruck.com if interested.
Thanks for the support and comments

I emailed ESP and unfortunately, there is not enough interest generated for them to produce any.

s1t808, at least you heard back from ESP. I had an F-150 prior to my Toyota. I couldn't find any options for locking under seat storage for that particular year. Being new to Taco's and this site, I have been busy getting caught up on the access cab version convo. Sad to hear that it isn't going forward. When I bought my Taco I didn't think there would be an issue over this mod, especially with the current needs of truck owners and secure storage. It very likely might have changed my mind on buying a Toyota. Thanks for the tease ESP.

Just got mine for Christmas. I have a double cab. I inquired about it fitting my AR, I was told that it would but maybe not in the case. Well, I don't know what kind of midget AR they have but mine will not fit at all. If I break it down, I can fit the pieces. It seems really sturdy and well built but if it doesn't fit my gun, its just a fancy jack storage. I'm still keeping it, well, because its very fancy jack storage.

It would probably fit a shotgun. I really wanted it to fit my AR though. It is a tough box. The hack nuts are true to their name. I will never be able to get the screws out without drilling. You have to make sure the screws go all the way down, otherwise the lid will hit them when closing.
