I know a locking gas cap can be defeated. I work at a high school and want a little extra protection. Kids will be kids.

That the cap is not perfect does not mean that it is not good or worthwhile.

Locking anything is to keep an honest man honest. Yes a fucking thief can break into anything.

Imo, a locking gas cap is a deterrent for someone wanting to vandalize your truck, they will look for something easier. If a thief is serious about it, your not going to stop them.

Update on the locking cap saga. I tried to order one from Advance auto parts. Was supposed to be the stant 10504. Went to pickup the order in person and checked it out. It was the same exact thing I had gotten before that was counterfeit. Black raised print warning label not white printing. No raided S on the grip Part of the cap. So I didn't accept it. I'm just going to give up on finding one that works.

That's crazy and must be exactly what happened to me. I didn't look that closely because it came in an authentic looking Stant box but it didn't work. I was gonna go on Stant's site and see if it's possible to buy one from them.

My wife's nearly done and on the home stretch with her teaching career at a local high school. She's been driving the Taco to work until we buy a new Rav4 (which might be a while because of the stOOpid going on). She's very well liked thanks to her area of study and personality but there's always some little tweek that might have a different idea. The truck sits in a locked section of lot only for faculty but I have seen kids walk thru there when a gate gets left open. As the saying goes..."It ain't over yet" so I want some simple protection.

Edit: My local O'Reilly shows they have it but as always, the application says it "does not fit '21 Tacoma". That's obviously wrong but they all seem to say that for some reason.

This is the listing I bought off eBay. It came in an official looking box but the cap was not exactly like the pictures in the listing.

I don't have an O'Riley's anywhere around so they aren't really an option. At this point if I can't see it before I accept it and return it if it causes codes it's not really worth it.

Took 2 tries to get one that works. First threw codes several times over a month. Second has been fine for 6 months now. First was from Ebay (no workie) and second from Amazon (workie). They look identical except the ebay one has plastic on the back part of the key. The Amazon cap's key is all metal, no plastic. Both came in Stant boxes....

Another +1 for O'Reilly's. Two months, no codes.

Nice. I'm trying to figure out how to maybe order it online and have it shipped. Seems like the site isn't letting me see the price until I choose a location and the site doesn't locate one nearby.

If I find a good one...and it doesn't code after a few days...I can get one and send it if you like?

I too work at a high school and feel I am well liked by students. One day I got on the freeway and realized there was an empty pizza box with napkins in my open bed. I came to the conclusion that many kids don't like the crust and are too darn lazy to throw the box in in the trash can 3 car lengths from where I park my truck. As long as your Wife is at a high school, I vote keep looking for a cap that won't throw a CEL light.

That would be great. I think I can order it from them and have it delivered. I'd still like to be sure it worked first though.

I did a search on google for locations and entered a Virginia location I found in on the site and it then showed to the price and let me put it in the cart. So that might be a work around. They ship free for orders over $35.
