Yes, it can be done. (FYI, I have NOT done it, since my '99 came from the factory with manual locking hubs ). From what I understand, you'll need to replace the knuckle, spindle and CV axle on both sides.
Not sure if you have to replace the differential. I think I read somewhere that you could still have the ADD functionality if you wanted.

I've been looking at this same mod and it seems there are lots of abstracts but few definitive lists as to what is actually needed.

Yep, i installed them on my 03 double cab.
    iirc, you need
    • locking hub axles
    • locking hub spindles
    • locking hubs
now, with that its just bolt on, but if you have ABS you would loose it. now what you can do if you dont want to loose it you press out the hub from the locking hub spindle and put it into yours.

also you dont want warn hubs, they are weaker then stock asain hubs

thanks for the info. I'm assuming the replacement parts you're speaking of are toyota items from the earlier models, if so what years? I'm not sure on that one, also can you give me estimate of the cost I'm looking at.
    thanks mike

You do not need to change the spindle.

I have manual hubs on my truck. Just changed the hub parts and CV's. Works great. If I recall, because it's been a few years, my way retains ABS. Toyota did not have factory manual hubs on a truck with ABS. So if you swap everything, spindle etc., you lose ABS.

you dont have to change the spindles, it just makes it for a easy bolt in deal with no press. however, what did you use? press out the bearing from the locking hub and press it into your stock spindle?

I'm using my stock spindle. I'm fuzzy on the details because it's been a few years, but I'm sure that it involved pressing manual hub components in. I like that I'm saving my CV's as I daily drive this thing and I can lock the hubs and still have shift on the fly. I don't always need 4wd but with the hubs locked I have options.

I was tearing CV boots prematurely due to a lot of height cranked in on my coilovers.

The install was done by Yotamasters in Corona. Good shop for Toyota 4x4s, good people.

thanks for all the info. sounds like I just have to dig up some manual hub parts and start switching things over. yotamasters guys seem ok I've spoke to them on some other things before and they seem well versed on these trucks, thanks again.
