Since this thread looks more like a lawnmower expo rig I thought I'd ruffle your feathers with this picture...

Yeah dude...I'm so butt hurt right now because of your comment. Trailer goes full throttle after I get back from a 21 day Vacation travelling coast to coast in my truck including rock therapy...but I'm sure whatever you are doing in the next 3 weeks is way cooler than that or building a trailer...

Haha! Yea moving my office and working overtime is way better than a well deserved vacation. You know I'm breaking your balls as payback for fooling me.

Anyways in all seriousness this suspension setup is legit and I think something to look at in your build. Now I wouldn't pay the 2500 for just this piece when you could build it for way less

Educate me, the patent holder on this design kept saying that leaf with axle doesn't work yet you say its tried and true. Obviously the designer of that setup would say that but from a technical view, please explain.

Leafs bear loads and holds the axel. How does that not "work"? If you need an example, crawl under your truck.

You misunderstood.. I know how a leaf works. This setup has airbags, which can bear great loads as well. I'm looking for more of a functional answer. Leaf packs with an axle vs this airbagged trailer

Yeah probably 70% of all offroad trailers are leaf Springs, another 20% are torsion axles and a few got for that Gucci timbren setup or air ride.

They are superior by far over leafs in the fact that it's basically independent suspension for your trailer. I think it's cool but my axles, springs, hubs and hardware is about 200 bucks....the timbrens are 700 ish and the air ride is likely a couple hundred more than that...and for what? So your trailer stays a bit more level? Who gives a fuck. Put that shit on leafs and use an articulation hitch and you are good to go!

    Just because it's better/cooler doesn't mean it's necessary...

Air bags and trailing arms are cool and they work well but there are also a lot of parts that can fail. You'd have to carry extra bags because the air bags can fail, the air lines can fail. For some reason, I have seen more spindles break on these setups than with full axles.

Personally I'm 100% in favor of leaf springs on an offroad trailer. The leafs on my trailer have worked great for years now and the setup is very simple with very little chance of failure. Stuff can still break. After 6 years of hard use and hundreds of offroad miles on my trailer, I broke a spring hanger on the trail during Cruiserfest last year. Threw a ratchet strap on it and drove 200 more miles offroad before I could find a place to reweld it. If that had happened with a trailing arm bracket, I'd have been totally screwed and wouldn't be able to go anywhere until the trailer was repaired. That could have taken days to get out of where I was and get a welder back into the location to make the repair. Instead I only lost about 5 min while I tightened a ratchet strap.

I know "all the cool kids" use airbags and trailing arms like that Adventure Trailer setup you pictured, but for the cost and hassle it's just not worth it for any perceived benefit from the setup. Just one guy's opinion. I'm sticking with leaf springs, cuz I can always get home with them.

Smart minds think alike. ;) But c'mon man it does look like you're starting a lawn care business. :)
