TLCA Houston Chapter, Bayou City Land Cruiser, meet up. My 40 was still on a lift, so Long Boi was filling in at the meet.

Towed the FJ40 from Houston, TX to Ouray, CO over 2 days for Solid Axle Summit (SAS) 6. Day 1 was a Friday, I left early afternoon and made it to Amarillo, TX around just after midnight.

Amarillo and surrounding area had record floods that night. This was last weekend in July, and it was the first rain they had had all year. I crossed rivers (Land Cruiser in tow) on the highway in the dark. Wild night.

Ended up getting to the meet up still pouring rain. Slept in the cab, only reason to crack a door was to pee. when the morning came, it turns out I wasn’t parked near the road. :D

I didn’t take pictures, but I towed the 40 back alright.

Overall, the taco did really well. I had the long bed full of gear, the heavy ass uhual trailer, and fj40 all of which was definitely over the weight limits. No braking issues at all, with the dry roads, trailer’s had trailer brakes, and good braking habits. Only place the 2GR struggles towing the 40 was coming up the steep mountain passes like Monarch pass and the pass near Ouray. I ended up topping out around 35-40mph with my foot on the floor.

After some backpacking, we did 3 nights camping and driving around the park. Lots of fun and exploration.

Picked up a backwoods adventure HiLite front bumper, skid plate connector, frame supports, and fog lights. 2weeks from purchase to arrival. Crazy fast @Backwoods Adventure Mods!

Install is pretty straight forward. Only hang-up was with the hoops, you need to assemble the center grill w/ TSS sensor before putting the bumper on as the hoops prevent it. I found this out the hard way. Once the aluminum piece is on, it’s a PAIN to take off due to limited access.

Really liked how the skid connector looks. Worked well with my RCI skids.

Only loose ends are getting the fog lights hooked up and deciding on what to do for the license plate. The TSS works with no issues so far.
