Length of the shock. Because of where it mounts on a LT vs MT the shock uses more stroke.

When talking ext travel vs non ext travel Coilovers, people are referring to model specific coilovers, ie those coilovers were specifically designed to fit the 1st gen Tacoma or 2nd gen Tacoma etc. I know for 2nd gen Tacomas they vary from about 4.5" to 5.5" stroke depending on the ones you get.

The long travel coilovers are just a generic 8" stroke coilover. They are not specific to a Tacoma or any vehicle for that matter.

Generally yes, some kits require a non-generic shock to get all of the up travel. Mine are an 8" coilover but collapse to 14 3/8" instead of 16"

Yeah, guess I could have specified that they are slightly customizable to your needs.

    ...too much shit to list.
Each to their own, but I personally wouldn't run a body lift on a desert truck unless the cab had solid mounts and the cab was plated to an internal cage. The extra leverage with a body lift is frightening.

And while with LT you don't have the concern of hitting the frame, you can still hit the pinchweld. I only have 33's (285x75x16) and I rubbed the pinchweld full lock/stuff with my old wheels (4" BS). Adding another inch on the tire radius will certainly compound that. I still constantly hit my wheel well aprons at full bump.

In the end it all depends on what the goal is for the truck. 35's take a lot of massaging to make work if you are planning on using all of the the suspension travel on a first gen.

In order for me to clear 35"s I took a huge portion of the fire wall/floor out and plated it back in and teimmed the glass 1.75" al the way around the edge. It was full weekend job but now it clears locked and stuffed in both directions.

I have a 1" body lift and just beat the firewall with a hammer till it cleared. You gotta monitor the ECU while you do that though because it ends up encroaching on the wire harness and you dont want to pinch that the wrong way (3rd gen 4runner/1st gen tacoma)

also I have stock fenders cut but the tires stick out alot and locals laws may stop that from being a option.

This was for mid travel. I beat it back a bit more for LT
    http://www.ultimateyota.com/showthread.php?8846-fitting-315-75-16-tires-on-a-3rd-gen-4runner

body lift is undesirable from a center of gravity stand point, but 1" wont be something that will break or shear mounts off. for fitting 35" its pretty helpful to just save some time and effort. Again if you take the time to clear without a body lift you are ahead of the game.

Just a question would you think 35's would rub with a total chaos at full bump? Im already commited with the 35's and the total chaos kit, i was just wondering if i had to do some massaging
    thanks
