Well my faith in Dirt King just went down a little bit here... got the spacers in the mail. They were gracious enough to overnight them.

However they only sent me two... and they are just plasma cut 1/8 sheet and spray painted. There is still a little slag from a rushed clean up so I will need to sand them better. I’m going to go to the hardware store and see if I can find a better solution to get me on the road. Then I am going to make my own weld on ones at my cousin house with his large when I find some time. We will see what I come up with today...

Okay, so thanks to you guys I realized I messed up my bumps when I last had them charged haha

Where the Oring is; is where they were on length

And then all the shocks got purged and whatnot for the mounts and cage to be powdercoated.

It's raining like a mofo so measurements will have to wait. But here is another picture I took just as it started to pour

So True Value for the save. They had some grade 8 5/8 “thick” washers. They are 3/16 thick. One side is perfectly flat and sits on the machined surface of the spindle perfect. The other side is slightly crowned on the edge from the manufacturing process. However it sat nice and flat in the machined surface and you still get a good 80% contact. If you welded these in place with the crowned side welded I have confidence they would work great for the long run.

As for my situation. These are a short term fix. They gave me the clearance I need to move forward with the install. However i plan to replace. I found bolts on Fastenal’s website that are high strength and 55mm long with a yellow finish. They are pricy at $45 for bag of 5 haha. But I will be getting those for sure on Monday. Longer term I want to machine some 1/4 spacers (or find some to buy, McMastwr Carr had some stainless ones I saw but I want to weld them in place. So I will be machining some the right way when I can find the time to do it (cousins lathe is a 3hr drive). As for now, time to move forward and try to get this thing on its wheels!

They should offer a clip for the 3rd gens to convert it to the current 4runner - that would look great.

My faith in the company would have gone completely out the door when they asked me to install a "spacer" to fix their engineering fuck up.

Seeing as how Solo and others have done this, I’m not going to just write them off.

I appreciate what they are doing. Not just sticking with the status quo but trying to push the limits of what you can get out of a 3.5” kit. Issue aside everything else went together smoothly and the parts are quality. Only time will tell from here. Once I get a thousand dirt miles on this kit will I have my final verdict in. So far, it’s like any LT build, there are always things to deal with.

I don't know about pushing the limits, but at least when I bought my kit, heimed uppers were standard and it was over $1k cheaper than the TC race series. Now it's apparently a $250 option, making it still far cheaper

Sometimes things are cheaper for a reason...

Just so the numbers are here: DK w/ heimed uppers-$3009 TC Race w/ heimed uppers-$3945

    Not including axles.

I see where you are going. I am glad you like your Total Chaos kit, they are great and awesome.

I am trying to enjoy what I spent my hard earned money on too. I liked a few things Dirt King did differently like delrine bushings on the lowers, boxes uppers and machined CV’s for more droop travel. Maybe it’s a 1/2” more all said and done and then oh well. I can always take the spacers out and limit the travel to the TC numbers. If I have to run a spacer to make it happen, I’m game to try.
