Hello everyone curious on the long travel thread does anyone have a LT kit with manual hubs? I’m being told that for manual hubs and long travel cvs we have to swap the outer part of the cv on the hub side for it to work. Does anyone make the cvs just in general without having to swap over?

CVJ axles makes cv's for 1st gen tacomas with manual hubs for +3.5 kits. They build a lot of custom stuff so they could probably do other lengths.

I was quoted 1100 for the cvs, sadly if I was add it would be like 3k for Lt instead with manual hubs is gonna be more

@BrownMike had a one off setup - but no, the spline count is different from Tundra cv's that all 3.5 kits use for axles.

If you swap out your diff / axles / spindles for a ADD setup you'll probably have no problem unloading them for ADD parts. Other than that you'd have to get custom cv's made since I don't think anyone besides @BrownMike has a pair and they're on his truck. I don't think it's the case that you can frankenstein a set of CV's with OEM parts unfortunately.

Yea can is what I’m told. From cvj axles. For Lt axles you just swap out the outer end for manual hub outer.

Right but I meant exclusively from OEM parts - ie not cvj custom splined shafts.

Yea meant that. Trying to get a long travel kit without cvs cause most kits come with them.
Most decent price kit that isn’t to much is the mcm kit pretty reasonable

I'd keep waiting for a used kit if you have a limited budget - rebuilding one doesn't take any skill compared to if you are going to build your own axles. You may even find a kit already with cv's and possibly spindles you can sell and pay for part of your axle shafts or just change to an ADD diff and keep the stronger ADD CV's. MCM has nice parts, though.

One more thing to assess is how you would be able to fix a broken cv on the trail if you plan on wheeling hard. Occasional wet or soft stuff probably not an issue if you haven’t been breaking anything so far but guys that throw on big tires and do some rockier trails usually have the stock cv as a simple way to keep going if it breaks.

Thanks for the tag @Dalandser

Correct, I have a TC 3.5 kit with ADD diff and manual hubs. I believe it is a stock tundra axle with a tacoma cup on the outboard side. I do recall reading/seeing that it could be done at home, but dont quote me on that. Also, I did zero modification to my ADD diff to run manual hubs, I know some recommend putting a hose clamp inside to lock it in place or whatever.

I'll do a quick search to see if there are any part numbers I can reference on the cups to verify what I have.

My truck was originally ADD, when I bought the kit (used) it came with the manual hubs and axles. Never had an issue with them this far.
