So yes i searched on tacoma world and the interweb for the answer to my questions.

I am looking at buying a used 2007 tacoma 4 door that was undercoated by toyota, its had a hard life......

I am familiar with how the recall worked for 1st gen trucks as my 02 was done and my 04 was not :(

In my search i keep on finding is "i am getting a new frame or not getting a new frame because ..... or outdated information from back 4-5-9 years ago"

    So my questions are:

Is this truck frame still covered ?
    For how long ?
What are the common rust spots on the 2nd gen frame ?
Do i have to have the truck for X amount in my name before they can do frame work ?
    whats included ?
This truck had the spring recall, are new springs included in the frame (as they were on my 02)

Non related fame question truck has 250000km on it

What should i look for when buying a 2nd gen ?

    Other issues

have to switch into neutral to start some times
    tailgate is toast
power window drivers side only goes 1\2 way down
    Tail light is broke out
    Exhaust is broke off

    would like your thoughts suggestions

    Thanks

found this but still looking for more info :)

Yes the 2nd Gen trucks 2005+ are susceptible to frame rust. The notorious spots are the transmission crossmember and the end of the boxed part of the frame where it transitions to "C" member styling. So inspect both of those for heavy surface rust or holes. Avoid any truck with heavy surface rust.

I dont know for sure about the frame but I took my truck, which is an 07 sport, into the dealer just a few days after I got it to have them get the headlights working right on it and they told me my truck had a recall going on the leaf springs and were ready to change them out then and there.

I would walk away from that truck, even if it's dirt cheap, sounds like a freaking headache.

2nd gens are in the beginning stages of the legal frame battle, lots of us have received a notice, but no large or consistent actions by Toyota yet. Some, with earlier models that show some rust issues on the frame have successfully had Toyota put on a undercoating, which has been reported as a joke of a bandaid.

The recall is for the rear leaf packs and the dealership will replace them for you no matter if you just bought the truck or not.

Normal used vehicle things to check as well as needle bearing noise, wheel bearings, rear axle seals. Nothing too notable I think.

I was told 12 years from date it was first sold. My 2006 had full frame replaced and everything that touched the rust they replaced also. Everything under my taco is new.

This that and the other thing.
so in Canada the recall is only up to 2008 for some reason lol as far as I know, if the previous owner took it in to get inspected for frame recall and they sprayed it as a fix, then they felt it was not in bad enough shape to replace. since they have inspected it and "fixed" it, as of right now, in legal terms, Toyota has done their end of the deal and wont replace the frame. BUT apparently having it inspected and sprayed extends the warranty to 2031? so thats not to say, if the spray doesn't work frame turns to crap, you may not be SOL, but time will tell I suppose. ive been doing some reading on this and its hard to remember everything hahaha another known spot of rust to check is by the Cat.

Leaf spring recall, if it has not been done, u can get done no problem, a simple VIN check online will tell you what u need to know or call a dealer. I got my 09 used, found out a week later about leaf recall went to dealer and had it replaced the next day.

I bought mine with 210 000kms on it and no issues yet, seems like the PO took good care of it.
sounds like it could be a Neutral Safety Switch issue
tailgate can be replaced and I'm sure window can be fixed
you can find some nice Depo tail lights for cheap on ebay, just silicone the seal to be sure no moisture gets in
sounds like a good excuse to get a TRD exhaust haha

My neighbor just had his 2011 frame replaced under warranty a few weeks ago.

Thanks for all the replys !

I checked online for recalls with the vin and nothing came up. But in the glove box there is a invoice for service and part of it said undercoating and inspection was done.

My experience with my 02 frame sprayed and inspected, year later I was under the truck and see that part of the box Chanel by the spring hanger was let go. Toyota put a new frame under it. I was told it has 15 years warranty from the date of manufacturer.

Just wondering if this also applies to second gen
