I'm looking to buy a white 2005 Tacoma Doublecab, but the one that has caught my eye and is in my price range is located almost 250 miles away from me.

I was looking over the pictures on the dealers website and saw this down near where the hookup for the cars computer is I imagine (bottom left of steering wheel), so it has me a little worried. It also looks like something is plugged into the 12V supply...
When I asked the dealer he said it was "some kind of electronic gizmo the guy had hooked up and removed when he traded it in".

Can anyone of you Tacoma guys identify this?

well, it's not removed, is it?

plugged in his 12 volt, running under his driver's side toward- i'm guessing here.. the firewall.

maybe that's how he ghetto rigged an under the hood light?

any case, i'm sure you can just unplig it and cut that cord. get down there and see what it is attached to.
i'm betting it's under dash foot lights though.

So you don't think it's any indication of maybe an chip or anything? I've never really had experience with chips to know that it definitely isn't one.

It looks like my friends air bag gauge he has in his truck for the rear suspension that he uses while towing to level the truck. Looked exactly like that. No sure why its plugged into the lighter plug though.

Well there is the possibility that it could be two different items that aren't related, I just don't know.

When I first saw the one under the wheel I thought it looked like some kind of guage as well...

I guess now I have to buy the truck to find out what in the world this is:confused:

Ask the dealer if its a gauge that reads PSI. If it does, then its a guage for the air bags. The previous owner could have removed the compressor and airbags. Should be a switch on the gauge. Have the dealer turn it on, if you hear the compresor, its air bags. Most likly to level the rear of the truck for towing or heavier bed loads.

Not sure what it is, but you need to know exactly what it is before you make a 250 mile trip just to find out the guy screwed up the electrical system. tell the sales guy you wanna talk to the head mechanic and see what he says

    Wow, nice work guys.

I've actually found a black 05 with 39k miles a little closer I am going to check out tomorrow, so hopefully this weekend I will be a full fledged member of the Tacoma World.

    Thanks everyone!
