Anything I nned to be aware of with these 3.5L V6 engines??

    I have 530K on my 2012 4.0L V6....are the 3.5's that reliable as well??

It's basically the same engine but a bit smaller with 2 sets of injectors and runs on an atkinson cycle sometimes. You may be disappointed with the torque curve/powerband coming from a 4.0L, but there's no reason reliability should be any different. I have a 4.0L in a 2003 4runner with over 250K miles....I bought it with a broken timing chain after a botched headgasket job at 180K miles, tore it down to clean all the shrapnel out of it and rebuilt it with new pistons, rings, and bearings....it's a great engine. If the rest of the truck is in decent shape, I'd keep doing what you're doing and run it to 1M miles. I have a 3rd gen Taco and while it's just as reliable as I'd expect a toyota to be, it annoys me.

They both leak oil at the timing covers eventually.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I would drive it until it was undriveable.

    The inside is pretty funky....

Here's my floor mat. I've worn a hole thru it with heel of my size 13 work boot. LOL it goes clean thru the mat into the carpet.

I need to clean it up

It certainly amazes folks when they see how many miles it has.

I put them tires on last month and the guys at the tire place were tripping out that it had over half a million. Eventually there was 6 guys checking out the odo because they didn't believe it at first. The manager asked me if that was actual miles.

One young guy that has a 3rd gen talked to me a while after they were done. He was thinking of selling his rig and getting a Ford or Chevy - can't quite remember.

By the way.... I get an oil change every 5 weeks & put new tires on it every 15 or so months.

    Alright ya monkeyheads…..

I went and put down a deposit on a new black SR 4x4 with the V6. $500 to hold it for 90 days - non refundable.

I reckon now I’ll look for some side steps so it’s easier for my mom to get in it, she’s 79 this year. Any suggestions are welcome.

Also plan on getting some Cooper AT3 LT’s put on it. I’m undecided about new wheels as of yet.

Valvoline MaxLife 5W-30.... just changed the oil yesterday.

It's pretty much 90% highway miles.... 2 hrs each way 5 days a week. I was out of factory warranty within 6 months after buying that truck.

I need to do some major maintenance on it pretty soon, plugs, coolant & hoses, clean the throttle body.

I'm on my 2nd fuel pump, 4th alternator, new upper & lower ball joints & at 440 had some emissions BS valve valved replaced under recall. Service manager was amazed a 9 year old truck only had 44K on the clock..... I told him to look again, he missed a digit. He almost shit himself. They took care of the issue under recall - no charge for $1500 repair.

Funny thing is I go thru headlights like crazy..... Changing one side or the other seems like every 6-9 months.

Are you changing 1 headlight at a time or both ? I've always changed both at the same time and a small dab of dielectric grease in the socket.
