    I can believe that!

That's how a lot of them street peddlers sell their shit. Taking advantage of the stupid tourists.

Thanks for the heads up. I avoid buying stuff from those peddlers (or whatever you call them).

janster.we went threw apple vac. and everything we did we booked right in the lobby of our hotel.didnt plan it either.just walked down and figured out what we wanted to do.fantastic people to deal with.i dont no the name of the outfit, the dude in the lobby directed us to him and his boat.(scary).wife was like idn about this.but it was all good.paid threw apple and everything, right in the lobby.and the lang. wasnt bad in the resorts at all.even downtown at the fleamarkets/junk sales wasnt bad either.got some GOOD cuban cigars the one night as well.we knew NO spanish and did just fine.i would highly recommend the dune buggy ride into the back country if u get the chance(not sure if they offer that in cancun)but well werth the money imo.hope this helps ya.ive been to cancun as well but that was family .cabo was adults only.cancun was great to,but i really liked cabo because u can get a little more crazy without the kids along.love my kids though.

    Got my passport today!! Yipppee!!!
I sent mine a little earlier than my husband did just in case there were problems (I have Naturalization papers).

So where do you guys put your passports - in terms of carrying it and such?
Do you buy a special passport sized wallet or carrying 'thing' to keep it in?

Snorkels & masks are on the way - purchased from ebay. :D

    Thanks!
I might atleast try to find a little leather pouch or something...I'm weird like that. This thing is kinda along the same importance as all my credit cards. :D
But yeah, everything I don't need to carry (including passport) will be the safe. Fanny pak - here I come! (laugh - I'm old school).

Janster, my daughter just got back from her honeymoon in Cancun. They said it was near 90 every day and the water was warm. Enjoy!

Wooot Woooot!!!! Only 3 more days!!!!

Our suitcases are packed! And we've got a lot of little things to tie up before we go. I have to get more travelers checks today.

How much Spanish speaking will I need to know? I took a couple years in high school & college. I know how to say Hello, Thankyou, the usual shit. I can count pretty good... I guess that's all I'll need to know.

    Any other suggestions...feel free!!

Oh yeah.... I've heard its VERY important to avoid the water and anything that comes in contact with the water?? My husband works with someone who got really really sick. No salads (because its washed in water) etc.
We're even considering washing our teeth with bottled water. The last thing I want is to get sick while on vacation! How miserable would that be?

Wow!! I wish I was going!! My wife and I have been numerous times. We always drank bottled water, but never had a problem when brushing our teeth with faucet water...never thought about it.

The 1st time we went we took a lot of cabs, and they will take advantage of you if given the opportunity. Don't hesitate to take the bus. It's very cheap and there are tons of them, so waiting is not really an issue.

It's very Americanized, so not really a language barrier.

When we go, the best shopping deals are downtown (not the tourist downtown). It's can get a little shady down there though. In the Mercados, everything is negotiable price-wise. Don't be afraid to haggle.

Be prepared to be swarmed with people trying to sell you timeshares and other "great deals". It starts when you get off the plane and walk into the airport and continues along the strand. Reminds me of a bunch of carnies at the carnival!!! Get your trips and excursions through your the hotel concierge or your travel (apple??) company.

    Have fun!!!!

Thanks for all the tips & thoughts!
My mind has been like a freight train with just about everything going through my head. I'm probably just over-preparing and over-reacting. This is the first trip to Mexico and just wanna be prepared and 'ready' (for just about anything). :D

That is sucha fun trip. Me and my wife and two kids just got back from a 21 day Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel trip. If you get a chance got to Cozumel it has some of the best reefs in that area. The snorkling on the southwest side of the Island is just amazing. Scuba diving is awesome there to. If you go to walmart they sell passport holders. I travel from MT to Iraq 3 times a yr and I put mine in that and put it undermy shirt so nobody can see it. You will have a blast the weather is perfect right now, Water is so BEAUTIFUL. Have a great trip
