I recently purchased a 2024 Tacoma Off Road. I'm looking for advice on running boards. I weigh about 220 and don't want cheap ones that will sag when I step on them. I also want ones where the finish will last and not start peeling off or rusting. I'm leaning towards the Go Rhino RB20 or Go Rhino Dominator D6. I also like the looks of the Westin Outlaw Nerf Step Bars. They look sturdy and local truck accessories stores tell me they hold up well. But they are currently unavailable for the 2024 Tacoma. Lots of cheaper ones available on Amazon but I want good ones. I tried to find pictures of the OEM running boards but couldn't find any. Anyone have experience with these brands or others and would recommend them?

There has been one or 2 threads about them and they have some pictures. Also the picture and video post that is sticky may help out and give you some ideas.

As a big chungus, I have never stepped on a single running board that ever sagged under my weight.

I once landed a truck on top of a tree stump and bent the shit out of a nerf bar. Even in it's banana'd shape, it still didn't act like a dry-rotted boat dock when I planted my fat foot on it.

I went with the RB20 Slims with the bed coating on them and am happy.

I put them on "backwards" so the rear is wider than the front to see if it is useful as a bed step. It isn't so I'm probably going to turn them around.

I ordered from Extreme Terrain instead of RealTruck (Who is OEM). Same price, same free shipping, but didn't have to wait extra time for the Taco mounts to come in separately.

I need to buy running boards for my 2024 Taco. I don’t need them, but my kids, who are 6 and 5 years old, do.
I’m thinking of getting these same RB20 SLIMS, and I’m interested in the way you installed them 'backwards'. I don’t want them to be in the way when I get in the truck, and I found it interesting to leave the wider part at the back.
How did you manage to do this? Are the 3 brackets on each side the same, or are they different, and in what order did you install them? Thanks!
Honestly... do you find these running boards useful?
Do you think they are useful for someone who is between 5'11" and 6'?

I have RB30 Slims. I weigh a little more than you do. They don't flex at all.

Had them for a couple months. I'm quite happy with them so far.

The brackets mount to the truck then they screw into a floating metal block in a channel on the step itself. It basically sandwiches the step between the block and the mounting arm. All you have to do is put the driver's side on the passenger and vice versa.

I'm 5'9" and it did take a bit to get used to them. I now step up with my right foot and kind of fall in to the seat. I don't need the step but the seat on my '07 Taco that I had for 17 years had a hole in the upholstery where I would slide over so I'm trying to avoid that. My wife is 5'4", she was the driving factor. She doesn't "need" them but she does. They're low pro enough that I can step in without hitting my shin on them. Someone around 6' shouldn't have any issues ignoring them.

My recommendation is don’t put any.

Having said that, I still got some because one passager needs them. I should have paid extra for the auto lower/retract. All the others are too high for a 5’10” driver or taller. I never use mine, I just dirty my pants on them. Just a mud/snow collector.

    Slater,
New Tacoma owner. Have a 2024 TRD Pro. Very interested in running board for my short wife. Do I need these professionally installed? Sorry if it is a stupid question.

No, 7 bolts on each side.
The threaded bolt holes are already in the frame from the factory..

I went with D6 Dominators. They're solid for sure and great value for the money. They work well as a step, shield the sides of the truck from gravel, and are wide enough to prevent door dings.

Me too, great running boards. Wide and easy to enter/exit truck.

klctlc10, I'm a shorty and the D6 Dominator helps with the mount/dismount. Slater's are nice and bolt on to the frame (stronger) but don't have a cap on top. D6 mounts to the body. Easy install.
