looking for a used pre certified 3rd gen Tacoma TRD off road dcsb 4x4. Most likely will only be a 2016 year model.

Want to know how is your 2016 model treating you?

All I hear on this forum is the bad apples. Is there any good 2016 tacos? No diff howl? No tranny shifting issues? Overall is it a good truck or should I wait?

I've had my 16 Trd Sport MT for almost a year and no problems. I do have the diff howl from the beginning but it's not getting any worse, just a bit annoying. Haven't even been back to the dealer once.

I would wait. The rear end and automatic transmission issues are not fixed yet. Those issues are pretty major in my opinion. Other than that, the trucks are pretty nice.

Ha, yeah I'm sure. Fortunately my brother in law is a head mechanic and looked it over.

Myself and 2 of my workmates have Gen 3's and we must be the luckiest people on earth. No shift flares, noisy rear ends or other gremlins that plague some of the few here. Going to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow and I'm going to buy this joint if I win.

Here's the deal. Go to this thread and look at the millions and millions of dollars these unhappy Tacoma owners are spending on their trucks. Why would they do that? Sometimes the truth is just a few clicks away.

If i where you I would not buy a first year model. i would really look into a 17 or 18 when it comes out.

I would be very cautious about what you buy when it comes to the 3rd gen used or new. Make sure you test drive it for more than just 20 or 30 minutes. I'd demand an overnight test drive.

I don't really have many problems with my truck, the diff was weeping but the dealership tightened the bolts a week before the recall and it stopped. The locker, crawl control, and mts work very well so far. As far as transmission issues, my truck seems to be fine and personally I think that some people are blowing it out of proportion. My theory on why that is is that you only search the cause of something when it goes wrong. People without transmission issues wouldn't have a reason to post about it. I have noticed if I'm manually shifting I can accelerate faster. Unlike a lot of people, when I lifted my truck I didn't have to get a new driver's side needle bearing. It isn't that expensive even if you lifted and needed one, but if you do need one it's gonna annoy you until you get it. The acceleration of my truck so far has been good and it's done everything I've asked it to do so far. My only complaint is the gas mileage, it isn't very good. Don't get one with nerf bars if you plan to off-road, they will break your first trip out. Wait and get rock sliders if you want something. Make absolutely sure that the diff isn't leaking or showing any signs that it leaked recently before you buy your truck, best of luck

I picked up a used 17 TRD OR AC, build date 1/17, about a month ago. Time will tell, but I haven't experienced any of the kinds of tranny/rear end/whatever nightmares some people on here seem to be experiencing. It's a solid truck so far and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. (Of course, I'm probably now jinxed.)

I bought mine used ! Previous owner did the long 4800 mile test drive for me and took the hit $ wise for a 4-runner for family reasons. Thanks to him I saved 5-7k$ for mods and beer money lol. No problems here whatsoever guess I hit the lottery.....
Sometimes used is a better option as you don't take the upside down hit if your not happy with it! The value will be close to the same as you paid.

So, you replaced your 2017 for an underpowered vehicle that gets lousy gas mileage a history of engine sludge a timing belt and a four foot bed?
    Yea that makes sense.

There's hundreds of thousands of "good" ones. People seek this forum out who like to complain. No vehicle is perfect even new ones are not 100% sure to be free from any and all issues.

I am sure. However, I am also sure the percentages of rear end and transmission quality control failures are much, much higher than normal.
