if you plan on towing/hauling alot get the 6, otherwise get the 4. transmission is simply preference. i wanted the configuration your looking at, but theres no way a 4cyl would tow the things i tow regularly

I test drove a white 2012 4cycl 4x4 Access cab in manual. I did not like it. It felt weird to me since I've always driven manual transmission cars that are smaller. The throw of the shifter was crazy. The clutch gripped at the very top. I don't know, maybe it's because I haven't driven standard in a long time. If I took that one out offroading, I would have fried the clutch by now or damaged the truck lol.

I have the SR5 package and it will be a rare option to find, but worth it. You need to try both and see what you can handle. I didn't tow and wanted the manual. At the time the v6 had the TOB issue and there was no fix yet. The bigger factor for me was the $23,800 out the door vs almost 30k for the v6 version. It allowed me to spend money on suspension, wheels and interior. I have the 2012 mirror now and fogs, so minus the engine and trans it's pretty much what I liked in the v6.

I had the tsb clutch done under warranty as the clutch was weak and would slip some. It shows more on the heavier AC 4x4, but since repairing it has been much better. It has plenty of get up and go; you just need to drop a gear and punch it. The v6 seemed odd with the gearing and 6th didn't lower the rpm enough to be useful to me. Shifting from 1st to 3rd to 6th wasn't much fun either. Everyone is different, so test drive away!

I also have a 4cyl AC 5 speed. I love it. I test drove an automatic so my friend could see what its like to drive a truck. When it was my turn I felt that the automatic made the truck very slugish. I think the 5speed should be almost required if your getting a 4 cylinder. 4 gears are not enough in the auto.
