I'm debating between a French Brittany or Boykin Spaniel. Looking to have a dog to take on the hunt or in the boat. I'm kind of leaning towards the Boykin due to they seem to be a closer range dog and a little less energetic but not sure how much of a difference there is between them. I like the idea of the French because they are less prone to flush and seem more task specific oriented as opposed to general purpose. Looking to take it hiking and doing outdoors stuff mostly, but would like to take into the fields so to speak too I have no experience with either breed so any experience you have is appreciated.

The dog's behavior is mainly dependent on the owner.

Training, training, training......and more training. Eventually, the training becomes intermittent, but will be needed throughout the dog's life.

During your training. Do yourself and your dog a big favor.

DO NOT USE PUNISHMENT or any sort of negative actions (including striking or yelling or shock collar).

The "punishment" is simply a denial of the treat. Treats can be anything from food, to petting, to play, to whatever the dog prefers. About food treats, only a piece big enough for a smell and a taste.

The negative actions will lead to the dog fearing you more than trusting you. Negative will interfere with a strong bond between you and the dog.

    ONLY reward for wanted behavior.

    Dogs are easier to train.
