There was just a good thread on this a few weeks ago. I'm thinking the same thing and I have the factory tow package. There is a larger aftermarket cooler that was getting great results

Are you looking to replace a trans cooler or to add another one in series?

I think I'm going to swap the factory one for a larger aftermarket. It's either that or change fluid every 50k. Amsoil trans fluid claims to withstand higher temperatures. I never have sustained temps over 210, but I've seen it spike and drop off. Fresh clean fluid is the best medicine for any trans, but a cool transmission is a happy transmission. I do 90% of my towing around town, all my trailers have brakes and I have never hooked more than 4500# to the truck. I've only got 24k on the truck, but I don't want to step over a dollar to pick up a dime...

I also replaced my stock cooler with a larger, more efficient aftermarket unit. The stock cooler is a small tube and fin style; stacked plate coolers are more efficient. If you go this route, I strongly recommend you use existing mounting brackets and/or fabricate new brackets - steer clear of mounting the new cooler to the radiator using the supplied zip ties.
