Hi i'm new, and i hope i put this in the correct forum. Fyi, i do not know much about cars.

I have an 06 prerunner sr5 which i havent really dont anything to besides adding a sub. I have a bit of money at the moment, probably around $700+ and i'd like to spend some on the truck. I surf mostly so im not an off roading kind of guy but i would like to get bigger tires and some nice flat black rims to make the ride look better. But i'm open to any and all suggestions!! Whatever you think will make my truck look cooler! :)

if you surf then how about Wet Okole seat covers? Keep the sand and wetness off of your seats.

Welcome to TW. There's a lot to learn from this place and lots of people willing to help. Unfortunately 700 is only enough really to do either tires or rims but unlikely both unless you can find a deal or know some one who can hook you up.

I agree, you should start with suspension. Maybe save up a little bit more and get a nice lift? Or you could go with an OME lift for around that price range

Hey guys! Well i didnt really mention this but i'm only in highschool, and any needed repairs will be taken care of by my dad. Yes im lucky. But i was thinking i'd like to do rims. Problem is, i dont know what the process is regarding if i want to get bigger tires later or what. Would i have to do rims and tires at the same time? Pretty fuzzy on the subject

A PreRunner with a TRD Sport Hood? Not sure about that but nice! And that's nice that your repairs are taken care of. I myself just recently reached the age (Or did my parents become broke?) where I am beginning to pay for my own repairs and maintenance. You have nice tires and rims already and to answer your question you can buy new tires or rims any time, separately! Your tires are most likely 265/65R17, (just look for that number or a similar one on the side) and if you want new tires, just make sure they end in 17! That is the diameter of the rim. If you want new rims, just make sure they are 17" in diameter! Or if you want new rims and tires altogether, find the sizes you want and match them. Let me know if you need anything else! Though DoorDing is 100x more knowledgeable

Nice truck. I'd probably look into getting better tires to grip the sand.

    Oy maybe i'm mistaken.

So if i wanted bigger tires AND the appropriate fitting rims, would i have to buy them at the same time? Also, how much to rims and tires cost separately?

That is more than you could say! Congratulations, I haven't even done that. But mostly because my parents are nice enough to let me keep all my money :)

Well you earned it and now you're about to get bit by the mod bug! But just a little heads up, a friend of mine invested $2000 into a certain computer company at age 18 and sold that stock for $8000 this year at 23! Just a little something to think about!

Also, once you begin earning more, the money you spend is a smaller portion of what you make. Right now it is a big portion. Good luck with your truck!

Well, what do you mean appropriate? The most popular size is 16" followed by 17" and then you get into really big rims.

If you buy tires that won't fit your current rims (Meaning they are not ending in 17) you will need to wait until you get the appropriate sized rim. I'll tell you what I did. I currently have 265/50R20. That is a street bling size and rim with low profile (skinny sidewalls as you see) tires and I do not like it. So I decided I wanted TRD Trail Team wheels, which are 16". A very popular choice. I also needed new tires so I decided I wanted 265/75R16 tires. This tire both fits my sizing needs and my rim needs. I bought them separately, but within the same day. I brought the rims to a tire shop, bought their tires, and they took the old worn tires off of my new rims and put their new tires on. I then drove all 4 tires home and they are in my garage until I can put them on.

    Any other questions? :)

Would be a pita to keep airing them up all the time. Would be ideal with on board air. Probably would be a good idea if he had a 4x4 or if he even wheeled, but he doesn't or have 4x4. Save the hassle with better tires and derp the wheels. I think he'd be happy plus he wants different tires, anyway.

I'm just going by his current budget.

Yes, so when i next replace tires, and if i want to get bigger tires, do you suggest I have them put on the new bigger rims at the same time?

Keep it stock.... save your money for a surf trip. Use the $$ for gas and go on a road trip surfing different spots. Just stay out of mexico/baja.... been there, done that.

Id like to say thank you all for such long and detailed responses such as these. I was on a salt water aquaria forum for awhile helping people set up reef tanks and it's a lot of work to help out newcomers!

Okay yes, after reading that i might want to stick with my average sized tires. But i do still want some rims. Do you have any good links that would lead me to a site with reasonable prices?
