I need some help. I have an 02 Tacoma, 2.7 L, 4 cyl. It has about 230K miles. When I start it up in the morning, it starts and drives fine, when I go a few miles and then turn it off to go in a store or something, I restart it and it has lost a cylinder. If it sits for a little more than an hour it will start fine and run on all 4 again, so it seems to be a problem when the engine is hot. It will sometimes lose the cylinder while driving a longer distance, but it is rare unless I cut the engine off. The code reader says generic misfire cylinder 3. I have changed the coil pack, and I have changed the plugs and fuel injector. Anyone heard of this before and can offer some help?

    Possible throttle position sensor malfunction.

Thanks shelf life. I will check that. Seems to be a cheap and easy item to test out.

Is it possible for trash to get stuck in the rail that feeds the injectors?

Have you run injector cleaner through it? At 230K, it could be a few things. Gunk in the throttle body, clogged injectors, vacuum leak? Check all your vac lines. Maybe get it scoped to pinpoint the problem.
