Lost boost?

I remember playing with it and watching the butterfly close when I had the charger off and it appeared to close all the way. That being said I thing it would be fairly easy to do this sort of check, just not today......too hot out and I don't have a garage.

Got anybody close to you that you can try swapping in their boost gauge?

 

At idle is it still pulling the same vacuum that it did before the Boost loss problem?

 

It's possible. Can you see any wear in the pulleys? Is the belt aligned right, I mean straight, bottom at every grooved pulley?

 

That is where i would not be able to answer your question as my gauge is only set up to read pressure. Its one of those stepper motor ones through speedhut that uses a transducer.

As far as i can see it appears to be that way, but i can always take more time to look at it some time soon.

 

I am almost at the point where i may machine a bracket that creates more wrap on the sc pulley. That would be later on when i run out of possibilities.

 

So I just watched and episode of Roadkill. They lost boost on their engine, which was in the Mighty Car Mods meets Roadkill. Said that the rotors had the teflon coating worn off and the tolerances weren't the same. They had to add a much smaller pulley to make up for the boost loss.

I hope this is not your issue.

 

Hope not. But maybe its time for a rebuild or some new parts? Im going to leave it be for now i guess and then pick it back up later. Its too much of a headache right now.

I had higher hopes for the rotson. It proved to be historically accurate though. Lol.

 

What about the intercooler system? If the coolant pump quit, you would have hotter, less dense air and less boost. I just cant remember which side of the intercooler the boost fitting is on...

 

The intercooler appears to be slightly before the boost port if i remember correctly so it should be reading "cold" boost i think. Either way i know the pump works cause I had to drain the system and re-bleed it after i took the charger off.

Oh sweet! I havent seen that one i dont think? Its just the rotsun has been in so many episodes its hard to remember them all. I will watch it shortly.

Also it was a while since any new episodes had been made so it fell off my radar.

 

I liked this episode a lot - had a good mix of stuff - building, Lucky (who I met once filming and is as nice a guy as he appears on screen), a road trip, breakage, parking lot fixes, more breakage... I've put a thread out trying to find more people interested in Road Kill - I'm hoping enough people could get them interested in building an old precoma either for street or off-road.

With a new rearend and trans hopefully the rotsun can whoop a car it goes toe to toe with next time.

 

I have high hops for the rotsun. I wish i had a car like that to f around with all the time.

 

So slight update, I looked at the charger for the first time in a week and found a very fine black dust/powder around the outer rim of my urd pulley. Looks to me like the belt has def. been slipping.

When i give it boost now, it starts at about 6psi and then rises with rpm to about 6.6 or so. This make me think as the engine is sucking more air in the charger is meeting less resistance maybe? Less slippage?

Other than making a custom tensioner bracket for it, I have no clue how to fix this. And i have no clue why the old worn out belt makes 3/4 psi more.

 

Maybe belt design differences?
