So, so far I've been extremely happy with my truck and haven't listened to a lot of the complaining on here, but thought I'd share what happened today.
Driving at land between the lakes, TN/KY, on paved roads, and when going down hill, the truck would Rev up to 3000 rpm, and get stuck at the speed it was going. Gas peddle won't work, and brakes won't work, then the truck started slowing down on its own and sort of unlocked.
Happened three times, exact same scenario.
I had the transmission fluid checked a month ago and they filled it up. 5200 miles on the truck. Never taken it off roading.

I wonder why they had to top off the tranny fluid with 5200 miles on the truck. Since the brakes don't work during these episodes get it towed to the dealership to get fixed and look up your state's lemon laws in case you have to use it.

Well I had the fluid checked when the issue of low transmission fluid shipping low from the factory came up. It was 0.5 quarts low.
As far as gas pedal or the brake pedal not working, not sure what caused that. I got it back and taking it in tomorrow. I gotta check it but I don't think lemon laws cover past 1 month.

In Utah the lemon law covers 1 year. Vehicle had to be in for same problem 4 times or 30 days during the first year of ownership. Not sure what your state has, but it should be somewhat similar.

That would be crazy. What state are you in? Its easy to look it up, most states are one year, they do have different time frames of length of repair/ times in shop for same issue.

Yea there wasn't anybody on the road, so I got lucky there. After it got unlocked I stopped and turned it off. Taking it in tomorrow. First brand new vehicle and twice to the shop in a month.

They're gonna have to " replicate it ". I wonder what tech would volunteer to replicate a truck having no breakes going 50 mph downhill.

Why do people automatically start talking lemon law everytime someone has a new issue. Most states it takes 3 repairs for the same issue and/or 30days. Please tell me how this is currently a lemon law case?

Sounds like a great job for the district rep. Or maybe the service manager.

Its not yet, I chimed in cause I saw the OP said something about only covers one month. I wanted to make sure he had the correct information at hand. However, a new vehicle losing brake control going downhill, that is a safety issue and should be handled immediately. Hopefully they can figure out what happened and OPgets his truck back in safe operating conditions within a few days.

Absolutely. Should of pulled over and called for a tow truck. Not worth the risk or your life or others. Hopefully they find and fix the issue.

Op seems pretty calm for his brakes going out. I'm curious for more info

No one said it was, the other member was giving me more info about the lemon law.
I hope it does not happen to other 3 tacoma drivers for it to be that way.

Cool and calm gets you further in life than highstrung and stressed.

Oh believe me, I wasn't calm at all but this happens about 5 hours ago and a few glasses of bourban have helped since I got home. I don't work on trucks or modify them, and that's why I bought a brand new one so I don't have to worry about serious issues.

^^^ That and you get to live longer... in some cases A LOT longer.

Sounds to me like your truck went into LIMP mode for a short distance. Check gas cap??

Just so everyone knows .... in case it happens to someone else:

There's a lever right down to the left of the shift knob. It's called a...... wait for it..... emergency brake.

It's there when we need it in case the real brakes stop working, this hand brake emergency brake whatever you want to call it is a MECHANICAL brake... it will ALWAYS work unless you pull the handle hard enough to tear the wire then you're in trouble.

If this ever happens again, drop it in neutral and slowly pull on the e-brake. Then sue Toyota.

I didn't say it was a lemon law case yet. I just mentioned to look into his state's laws in case Toyota can't fix it. There is a chance that they can't "replicate" the problem.

Are you sure you weren't on the gas and brake when this happened?
