lost my key fob

any cheaper alternatives than going to the dealer?

i bought my truck in texas but shipped it out here to the middle east (lebanon)

called my dealer in texas told me to go to a toyota dealer here.. problem is that its expensive and takes a month for them to order the fob since tacomas arent sold here. only hiluxes and asian market stuff.

Do you have the second Fob and want to replace the lost Fob? Or do you now have no Fob al all?

In the states I always look for a locksmith shop that does auto keys before going to a dealer.

Maybe check your local automotive locksmiths, here in the USA some/most of the automotive locksmiths carry and program key fobs...

If it turns out to be that hard to get, I recommend buying at least 2 or 3...

This locksmith made a spare key for my daughter’s Scion (metal key with lock/unlock buttons) a couple of months ago.

If you have one working FOB, Techstream can program additional units easily. I’d think other high end scan tools could do the same. I believe I procured my third from eBay and all works. The eBay one has a reduced working distance, i.e. I must be closer to the vehicle for it to work. Since you are out of the country I strongly suggest you get a copy of Techstream.

If you go the self help route make sure you get the proper FCC ID: and other numbers correct as displayed on the back of your FOB.

I found this on the their page, just so you understand you are buying a used key fob basically...
And they still have to be programed...

Programming

Must be programmed by a professional automotive locksmith or dealership.

I ordered an aftermarket unit that they don't seem to have at this time IIRC it was only ~$35.

Again, all will require programming the vehicle to the FOB.

 

Ok so I talked to the dealership here in Beirut Lebanon. They want 600 fucking dollars for a new key and programming and it takes 2 months for it to get here since it needs to be ordered.

is there any way I can order an OEM key fob from the U.S. and program it myself? I can get anything from the U.S. in 5 days.

Used it, works well. They rent out their programs thing and, at times, it is unavailable. This is a pretty common way to save money on fobs.

 

Revisit post #8. Techstream on an old computer, a cable, an activation and you are set to look at and do most anything a dealer can do or see.

I imagine Lebanon has many industrious back yard mechanics. I remember you had another problem that one took care of for you. Perhaps they can do it too.

I bought a used Explorer a few years ago that was a repo. It came with one fob and chipped key. Ford wanted mass prices for them.

Bought a brand new fob and key off eBay. Local locksmith programmed everything for $40.
