I've been to two. They can see what other dealers have done what. I'm pretty sure its blacklisted by VIN and my name.

Not sure if this is common in 3rd Gen Tacos or not, regardless I never buy first run of any vehicle. Let them work all the bugs out first.

1200 miles? lol it's not even broken in yet... gears are metal they need to go through heat cycles to close tolerances and wear off any burrs.

Actually most of the wear in occurs at the first 500. 1,200-1400 miles should be pretty representative of how the vehicle will perform. You do know that OEM gears come prelapped? But okay....

@EMT760- I can speak for TW members that I know, these folks are here to help, understand, share the pains of a failed repair/rattle that can’t be found, we know where you are with this problem and definitely understand why you’re mad for being sold a bad unit. Complain/Grumble/Whine all you want, get all the aggravation out on here, it’ll help you solve this problem.

Mine started howling at 8000 miles, dealership service advisor and service manager said "not normal" but couldn't do anything about it because Toyota doesn't have a fix yet. I'm headed in this month for 15,000 and is gotten worse so we'll see what my complaining will get me. (Probably nothing lol)

Yeah I do I also have worked as engineer in enough manufacturing facilities to know about Weibull curve for "burn in" or "break in" or whatever each company wants to call it. The engineers have determined the minimum value of hours/revolutions to break in and ensure around a 99.97~ assurance rate. They are not concerned with you having mechanical differential problems because a howl isn't one. I can also tell you that if you changed your oil now you'd find metal shavings associated with break in and if you did it again in 10k miles you'd find even more gears take a while and unless you drive your vehicle for long periods of time >1hr your differential gears are not really getting hot enough to fully set.

Maybe it’s just that simple...Toyota does not have an answer to repair it yet. :censored:

In all honesty if you just wanted a solution now you couldget on the phone with one of the most respected differential and gear shop in the use eastcoastgearsupply.com.
They could rebuild your differential if you truly wanted it.
You also could replace the rear axle with a custom one from them

Service advisor said "well it's a good thing you brought it in to document".

This either means it will be covered when Toyota decides to fix or replace, or he was covering his butt saying they did all they could. Either way I don't expect anything to be fixed.

They should set a reasonable expectation and tell the truth. In the end people will understand and respect a company for it!

I emailed them 2-3 different invoices where other members had the howl/whine in a Jpeg format. The document showed that the dealership replaced it under warranty, clear as day. They still denied it. " Customer states howl at 50-55 MPH. Check and advise. Recommend replacement of differential". Then it lists all the part numbers.

This email had corporate and the dealerships service department. 4 people CC'd in the email.
