I recently purchased a 2007 2.7L Tacoma and have a question regarding startup noise. The starter seems to be rather loud and makes something of a grinding noise. Starts on the first try without problems and I was wondering if a noisy startup is normal for these trucks?

Mine doesn't make a grinding but in the cold it was always very loud at startup.

Some kind of sound reference would be helpful -- post a video clip if you can.

Edit: Remember these starters have reduction gears and may sound different from some other starter motors. Mine makes a sort of loud chirping sound about 3-5 times before the engine fires, and I'm 99% sure this is normal.
