One of the best tech bits this truck has is Wireless Phone charging. Wireless phone Charging is the bomb anyway.

    HOWEVER....

I bought a Note 5 a couple weeks ago. Apparently Samsung does not have a wireless charger suitable for the large battery in the Note. My five wireless chargers at home would cycle off and on with the Note actually depleting the battery. Same thing in the truck. Some claim it works fine. I would test before committing

I returned it and bought the S6. It charges wirelessly like a champ. In and out of the truck.

Moral of the story. If you want to use the wireless charging in the truck TEST the Note 5 first. There just isn't enough power generated from today's wireless chargers for it. Samsung is aware of the issue.

Samsung claims an update and a new Wireless Charger $50 will solve the problem but that won't solve the issue of using QI in the Tacoma to charge the big phone.

Does anyone else have any experience with a Qi adapter for their phones? I have seen a couple of cases in the store which allow you to use the charge pad but am concerned about how well they work.

I put a charging back on the wife's S5 and it works great. Had one on my Note 4 as well. Note 5 did not charge. They work great on the S5, S6 (native) and S4

You can buy a charging back and see it if works. I had one for my Note 4 and I think it did okay. Note 5 is a nogo.

I am kinda liking the smaller phone after having all the Notes....(Still have my International model of the Note 2)

I don't know what you're talking about..my Note 5 charges just fine in my Limited Tacoma, with a case on too. Don't be scared of the Note 5, and I have a Samsung wireless charger at home that charges fine too.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and prior to receiving my taco I bought the official Samsung branded Qi charging back plate (not the folding cover one). Oddly my battery failed about 3 days later, but no confirmation that the alternate back plate had anything to do with that. Once attached the phone is thicker now, and my UAG cover bulges a bit on the sides but still *mostly* fits.

Now here is the important part, with the cover on the Qi charging will not work. If I pull the cover off it will work just fine, although it is slow (I'd guess around 3-4 hours for a full charge). Overall I'm not going to return it, but on a long trip I'd probably just leave the cover off and use the Qi charger to eliminate cables. For daily use, there isn't much point as the standard wall outlet has fast charging and I can easily get through a day with the massive battery and power saving features... or use a cable in the truck occasionally.

Going to try to test it with some other covers, this one is hard plastic and has air voids on the back which I suspect is the problem. A thinner cover might still allow charging.

    For reference:
    Cover = http://www.urbanarmorgear.com/collections/samsung-galaxy-note-4-cases
    Back plate = http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EP-CN910IBUSTA

*Yes, my phone is also a storm trooper to match my truck.

Looks like Toyota adopted Qi just in time for Google to abandon it in favor of USB Type-C:
Obviously Android OEMs (Samsung/LG/Moto/HTC/etc) can do whatever they want (perhaps retaining Qi in future models), but Google typically sets the trends for the coming year with their Nexus devices.

It's weaksauce that it can't charge through the aluminum iphone shells. I don't use phone cases and don't want to so I probably wouldn't ever use the Qi. I'd have my phone hooked up to the headunit via usb for audio anyhow so charging wouldn't be an issue.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ITI24EK for the new back that has the charging coil already built in.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LLM9MQY for the new case that you might need to fit around the now slightly fatter phone.
