I have a 2010 Tacoma Sport long bed and I was wondering how far you can go after the low fuel light comes on. On my old dodge I knew that I could go 40 miles before I was out of gas. Has anyone tempted to see have far you can go.

Per the many many many other discussions we've had on this topic on this forum it comes on with around 3-4 gallons remaining.

Sometimes I wish I drove on the highway more (I very rarely do) so I could see those better MPG's. I typical get no more than 300 miles out of a tank (but I refill before the light goes on).

The Manual says that when the light comes on your near empty and FIll UP Imediately! And that was my first time filling Up, and I was stressing.

But then I only put in like 18 Gallons. But I thought the manual said we had 21 Gallon tank.

So, now reading this thread, it looks like we do have like 3 gallons after the light comes on...

In tank fuel pumps use the fuel to keep them cool so it is not a good idea to run the tank consistently low.

I did 100km (60 miles) with light up, and there was still about 5-7 liters in the tank

It will go on until it runs out of gas and them some...............I know when mine goes on and I fill it back up I usually get about 17.5 gallons back in and considering its a 21 gallon tank that roughly left me w/3.5 gallons when the fuel light went on.........that 3.5 gallons will only last you depending on your driving habits....I am not a lead foot so I "might "get 50- 60 miles @ most, but I would not push it.............

in my Regular cab 4x4 im getting 400-425 miles before the light comes on and pull into the first station i see and put 17.5gallons. So i see about 22-25mpgs. Worst case senario 22mpg and 3+ gallon will get me 60-80 miles but why push it.

We are not nuts we just know how far we can go when the light comes on. I use the same station most of the time. And when I use other ones I know what Stations in my area that have good storage tanks and don't buy the crappy "discount" fuel!!!

i know it wasnt the smartest but i ran mine out of gas when i first got it (new so lesser chances for dirt in the last bits of fuel) i drove around for 4 hours and did 174km in mixed driving (highway and town). but no worries it didnt change in performance or anythin at all. and unlike some vehicles it will restart with a little bit of a jerry can, my dads van wouldnt start until it had a quarter tank after his unintentionaly ran out.
